So what are our thoughts on the Sony X9000H?
I see JB Hifi are currently offering a bonus Sony Soundbar with this currently until the 30th, so seems like pretty good value.

Got my hands on a commercial discount for this model through work, comes down to $2660 for the 65 inch model. Tempting....

I have the 55inch model which I got mainly for the promise of 4k 120Hz for the PS5.

So far I really like it. The picture and colours are great (you need to change to custom picture mode and adjust a couple of settings) the Android TV OS is really fast much better than my old Sony.

If you can get the 65 inch for that price then i would get it.

For that price, I'd say do it. It's one of the better LCDs in that price range and that is also pretty close to how cheap the outgoing model went.

All that does is reinforce how heavily the prices are inflated currently, if they can drop nearly $1k off the RRP for a discount and presumably are still making money on it.

I commented earlier in this thread that the markup on electronics is huge. I got over 30% off RRP and if you take example of a $4999 TV you can see why they can easily offer 20-25% ($1000+) discounts and still make money.

Many big sales are scanback / rebate type offerings where the distributor offers a rebate on the items sold over X period.

When you get a huge Easter or Boxing Day deal with say 25% off products will often be sold way below regular cost (and retailers are quite often keen to point out "we're making a loss here look at the computer!" as a result of this.

Oh indeed, my friend at H/N said if I could have waited for a rebate special I could have got it even cheaper as he would pass most of the rebate/discount on. Everyone is making a cut, manufacturer, importer, retailer etc

Some products are worse than others but you'd be a mug if paying RRP for consumer electronics

I see NL have the LG OLED65WX (wallpaper) TV for $8000 in their October sale. That’s approx the same price I paid for my W8 two years ago, a TV that still brings a smile to my face.

It's going to be very interesting to see what we have in the way of Black Friday / Cyber Monday and Boxing Day sales this year. There are still massive supply issues in the consumer electronics market, and lots of issues with shipping of goods to NZ but we've also got retailers who are desperate for $$ through the door and have a NZD to USD conversion rate that's currently the best it has been for over a year.

I'd love to be drop 8k on a TV but unfortunately it would likely end in divorce 😳.

I haven't seen many recommendations at lower price points.
Are there any around that 2k point that are any good for PS5? or is it not worth bothering...

Currently have a 43" 1080p TV that I paid $700 for around a decade ago and looking to upgrade to a larger one for the new console.

I'm getting TV envy looking all these new models up but I feel a lot of us are in a different market to you guys.

I agree it is a lot of money and I thought long and hard before shelling out, and justified it as the premium I paid over and above other 65” OLEDs. For the WX, the RRP is $10999 I think so $8K is a ‘saving’ on that.

I have reservations on buying any OLED that is going to have a lot of gaming done on it. Because I spent so much on mine, I’m paranoid about burn-in, so avoid anything that has static images. Mind you, I was the same with Plasmas a (TV) generation ago.

The KD-65A8H is currently at $4,989 (JB) with an RRP of $6999 when it entered the market a few weeks ago. Really interested in what happens with Black Friday - $4500 would be enough for me to commit without hesitation.
