I have to confess that not having used the PCI cards I am not that farmilar with exact setup parameters, however the LO setup and switch setup that they show on the dialog box in this thread is based around the use of a Universal LNB that is commonly used in Europe and has not one but two LO's within. Hence there are two LO entries. Further more you must tell the card when (at what input frequency) to change from using one LO to the other.

As the LNB's that folk are using here are single LO models, being either 10750MHz or 11300MHz then it makes sense to load both LO entries with the same detail as per your LNB. As for the switch frequency, I recommend that you make it 12750MHz. There are no transponders above this frequency therefore the first LO entry will be used at all times, more importantly the card will not output 22kHz tone. The absense of tone causes the LNB to use the first LO and the second is ingaged when the 22kHz tone is present. I have noted that some single LO LNB's will infact respond to 22kHz (when they should not) and switch to a not present LO, ie they have the swithing gear but only one LO, thus have no input.

The above condition could be what is causeing some of you no output, the card is outputting 22kHz tone, causing the LNB to switch to a non existant LO that causes no output. A switch entry of 0 would cause this, therefore I recommend that you enter 12750MHz (12750000kHz) as the switching frequency.

I took my PC over to a mates place and plugged it into his dish. In about 10 minuets I had almost 50 channels scanned in.

I guess I need to buy a new LNB!!

Given your expertise, what brand/supplier do you recommend?? Is it worth setting up multiple LNBs for different satellites while I'm at it. What are the advantages of this??

I'm hoping I can just replace the current LNB taking note of the angle etc. Does anyone see a problem with this theory??

Cheers

Paul

If you can find an ex sky Sharp single throat one they are very good, they turn up on Trademe from time to time, but dont seem to be any there just now. Otherwise these seem pretty good, I have installed quite a few and they work well and have good weather protection.

As for other satellites, well on a 65cm dish the only other things you can easily see with a multi LNB setup is the other two Optus sats, ie B3 and C1. There is nothing on C1 unless you get an Optus Aurora card, and on B3 unless you speak chineese, Dutch, Hindi, Turkish (and a few other langages) or are deeply religious (of the fanatical US variety) then there is nothing to view.

Hey guys,

I'm running a sharp dual throat with hvr-3000 under vista, my settings are 10750000 for low and high and LNB switch to 0 on wintv,
scanning took ages but came back with all the channels, just takes for ages to scan them with no signal showing till it hit the right Freq.

Problem solved.

I connected the LNB last night and viola. Its working great.

I had to change the freq for TV3 and C4 as the default was the sky versions, but other than that it is working great.

I'm not able to receive the free sky channels, but at this stage thats no big deal. Is this even possible??

Thanks to everyone for their help.   Cool

No, only TV One and TV2 were available on VPol. None of the other channels can be received without a Sky box

do you have a new or old LNB? You might want to change the freq to 11300000 for hi and lo

If you have got a dual LNB, make sure you use the 2nd one, as that's the one that points at D1

mine is the dual 1075000 lnb I'm picking up the freeview off d1 but can't get pick up b3 or c1 using the other half, i think i need to move the dish some more to pick up another sat (dish installed myself)  i find scanning with the wintv software is like pulling teeth, just takes forever to scan the freq to see if it's pointing at the right one(I'm also using a sat finder) , is there any software that works better under windows vista that shows strength and quality with fast scanning of channels. cheers

Hello All,

I have bought this card (Hauppage HVR3000) but can't get it to work properly. I am not getting anywhere with the vendor and would be grateful for any advice - this is driving me crazy!

The board is installed in a core2 duo, 2GB RAM PC running Vista32 and connected to a 75cm dish. The dish is new and has been set up using a satellite finder. Signal strength and quality are both 9+/10 as seen in the Win2000 setup utility.

The supplied software was for XP and I initially downloaded a Vista version from the Hauppage UK site. I have since downloaded from their Singapore site with the NZ settings. I did have an error reported when uninstalling the UK software (something aout being unable to change a registry entry) but the installation of the Singapore software completed sucessfuly after skipping.

I can get the WIN2000 utility to scan and find programs but they are only the Sky ones (the provider is listed as Sky), i.e no freeview. When I try to view them, only TV1 and TV2 will show a picture, the rest freeze.

I have tried rotating the LNB and re-scanning.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks,
Greg

Only rotate the LNB to peak the Quality figure, there is no reason to adjust it for anyother purpose. Can you manually input the tranponder frequcies to scan, ie 12456 and 12485 both Horizontal and both 22500kSymbol/sec.

It would seem the two channels you have found are the Sky streams of TV1/2 on 12671.

Without looking at what options the software offers for setup I cannot help more, others with this card should be able to shed light.

I remember I had to change the frequency for TV3 and C4 to the settings broadcast from Freeview and rescan. Once I did that I was able to receive all freeview channels.

I dont have the freq on hand, but check http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/channels.html.

Thanks for the replies.

Cyril, I can manually scan a frequency (tried both 12456 and 12485) but it just refreshes what is already there from the auto scan.  It reports that the provider is Sky and swaps the frequescies, i.e. tv1 and tv2 are on 12456 and tv3 and C4 are on 12483.

ltlman, how did you 'change the frequency and rescan' ? I can't seem to select the chanel and do this.

Cheers,
Greg

i have one at home, and it works fine.  I'm not there at the moment, so can't tell you what i did.

What type of LNB do you have, a new dual LNB or an old single LNB?

I've found the WinTV program to be a bit of a pain to configure sometimes.... i think it depends on which way you hold your tounge while changing things as to whether it takes any notice or not.

Perhaps you could try using MediaPortal instead - there is a (hopefully) simple step-by-step here for Freeview and a Nova-S card which should be more or less the same config-wise: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/Regs/3769
