Hey guys, funny coincidence. The first of the 2010 models came into my store today. I'll give a quick run down of my impressions at the end.

To LittleDude the first of the models came in today with the rest to come in over may except for the top of the range VT20 which will be a bit later again.
The LCDs have a 4 tier range but only two come in 42" and nothing bigger than 42" in LCDs.
The L42U20 is a full HD LCD I'd expect it to be similar to the 42" S10 LCD from last year but can't confirm as I haven't seen one yet.
The L42D25 is their top LCD and it is their token LED edgelit model, they are marketing this as a backlit model but in reality it is edgelit with a row of LEDs along the top and bottom of the tv only. It has all the high end LCD features that are now expected: 100hz, 24p it also has USB recording and ISFccc calibration options.

To openmedia the only model that is THX certified is the VT20 which is the top of the range 3D model($$$), apart from the lack of the satellite tuner it looks very similar to the g20.

Review Time.
Now for some reason the first and only model I got in store was the 42U20 which is the cheapest full HD plasma. I gave it a quick eye calibration next to a 42x10 and just for laughs a samsung 40B6000. The x10 has a lot of hours on it due to it being a display model for the better part of a year but even so I was suprised to see it edged out for black level by the LED. The U20 was easily better than both and although still not kuro black(hopefully they're bringing the goods with the V series) it was the equal or better of a g10. The U20 has both a cinema and a "true cinema" mode I played with both and settled on cinema as true cinema gives you no control over colour temperature and thus you're left with nice green looking alien people. Cinema is perhaps a tiny bit red in warm setting but is still easily a more pleasing picture overall than true cinema. It easily had the LED in colour accuracy and was a little better than the x10 which I think had very accurate colours for the money anyway. This was all done in quite a dim room with just a few lights not directly facing the tvs. As expected black level suffered as soon as a light facing the tv was turned on but bright room performance looks to have improved from last years range at least.
I have no hard data to back up my opinions as this was done after work but hopefully it gives you guys an idea of what they should be like. My 2c, if this is a good representation of the range then they should be the models to beat, black level rising issue aside.
