Call Sky and record the call, ask about the HD ticket and free channels, if they say that you can get the free channels in HD without the HD ticket, sign up and if they then try and charge you for getting the free channels in HD or only allow you to view them in SD, you have a recorded phone call as evidence of the advice the CSR gave you with they will have to honour (Or they are in breach of the FTA)

So its the same as the mysky 1 card, but does that mean that it will take my old crappy gold card from the black pace box?

In NZ don't you have to alert the CSR that you are recording the call? Especially if you are intending to use it as evidence

As an existing digital sky subscriber I inquired about getting mysky 3 months ago. The helpful csr suggested I wait if I wanted the upcoming mysky hd. Having just moved house and the recent purchase of a HD tv this seemed like a better option as I was told the cost will be the SAME $599.00 and I would have to pay twice if I wanted to upgrade to the hd version - ouch. At this same time I decided to get multiroom installed now (a second digital decoder) and I registered my interest in the upcoming mysky hd. I was told I would be contacted by phone. After some time I noticed an online registration form on skys web-site which I filled in and waited for the call. It never came.
The 2nd of July rolled round. I went to sky's web-site thinking that the product that was launching in July would be available. Currently the web-site only allows new subscribers to sign up for mysky hd. It's not an option for existing subscribers (online) Links to mysky hd have changed and disappeared over the last few days and there seemed to be a reference for new subscribers that you needed a hd ticket to get hd content, but this would be waived if you got multiroom. Hmm not happy that they're charging for hd content but thats ok I've got multiroom. I'll give them a call.
CSR: No you would need to get another multiroom
Me: No I have all the multiroom I need thanks. That can't be correct. That would mean you want to charge me $10.00 a month more than a new subscriber.
CSR: I'll have to put you through to technical, sorry they're busy, they'll call you back.
Me: Will that be today?
CSR: Yes they here till 10.00pm
Still waiting for that call...

In this case, the CSR should ALWAYS be giving correct information to customers, if not then the company, through their CSRs, is being misleading and should stand by what their CSRs are promising customers. So in this case, I don't believe notifying the CSR would be necessary.

Are you aware that Sky has two different MySky boxes: the original MySky box, which has an 160GB drive, 2 tuners and only does SD and the new MySky HD box, which has 4 tuners, 320GB and does HD over an HDMI output.

Although it has 4 tuners, only two will be enabled at rollout, and later you will have three tuners for record 2 shows and watch live, and the fourth for Pay per view and on demand.

Also I understand that the not all of the larger HDD is available for recording as some is allocated for pay per view.

So if you pay $599 and get an install now, that would be the old SD box (if I understand you correctly, this must still be being offered). The later install date is for the MySky HD box, only current MySky users have been given the early upgrades to this (see other comments in this thread). However with the HD box there are more options; with either an upfront payment or $15/month, and also wether to pay $10 to get the HD content.

So if you pay $599 now and get a MySky1 installed you can't just start paying the $10/month for HD in the future, you will also need to upgrade to the MySky HD (which currently costs $49).

We are current MySky subscribers. Note that there is no mechanism for SkyTV to transfer the content from your existing MySky to the HDi unit. However if you elect for the Multiroom option during upgrade. Therefore for $25 a month (with the first 4mths free) you get a second outlet installed, and you keep your existing mySky unit for the second location. You are not obligated to continue with multiroom option after the four months and revert to the $10 HD ticket

Roll on August...

I am not sure how similar the units will be to the Aussie Foxtel iQ2 HD+ (based upon same base system but modified for local environment) but you might find the following vlog from Foxtel on their device spec informative

People already reading this topic probably know all this, but I was keen to get Sky HD, so as a current non-subscriber I hit up the Sky website, clicked on the "Get MySky HDi" button, filled in all my details, and waited.

I called yesterday to find out what was going on, only to find that HD is not available until August. Why allow people to "order" it now, with zero information about the actual releas date? The CSR tells me it's just an "expression of interest", but the booking for is absolutely identical to the regular sky booking form, right down to "select your preferred install date" and everything.

Sad Panda. I'll just get regular Sky next week then upgrade to HD sometime later I guess.

I assumed it was up and running. Did any one see the red "Available in HD " logo on Saturdays rugby test thruout the evening??

Thanks Ben, after finally getting through all 21 pages of the thread, found similar info repeated in various forms, and the Foxtel link from James Bond 3 weeks back.

Just came back to edit my post and noticed your comment, no worries.

Maybe one of the original posters can edit a page 1 post with all the facts to save wading through. Kind of like what fossie did with the freeview thread.

So...ummm...who do I listen too?

It seems the CSR's don't know nothing. I've still yet to ring them, seeing there is no point till August.

About three weeks back I received a call from Sky regarding my interest and booked in for 4th August installation. I understand from this thread, some people have it as early as the 29th July.

Are you implying that once it is installed HD content will not be available? That contradicts the information that I was given at time of order. Just that initially there will only be 4 SkyTV channels (they did not mention TV3 however it appears that it will also be available at launch) and only two tuners. Also the ethernet port will not provide any services (IPTV) to begin with (the i from HDi)

The current Foxtel offering with Discovery, National Geo and BBC also in HD sounds great, so hopefully it might not be far off.

As with the current mySky you can record 2 and watch one show from HDD.

Use of additional tuners to come as software upgrade later on.

anyone know what the story with that "available in HD" logo flashing across the screen during the All Blacks game was? Available where i'd like to ask?

Sky employeees have HDi decoders and transmission is running from D1, therefore it is available.

aha, beta testing. Despite that, I still find it odd they were pushing it, despite it not being available to everyone.
