just installed the 551 update now, having a look around now.

You were supposed to have done that three times on 9th April! ;-)

It's still April, I call that a success.

I put the v551 onto my TCL 65c2us, the instant power-on seems to work much better now, haven't noticed anything else different.

Good evening All

I have an old TCL L55D2740, Chassis - MT56B-AP LED TV with V8-IMS08BP-LF1V037 firmware. Any idea what firmware version I can use to upgrade it?!

Thank you

Wandered into Noel Leeming for the first time since Level 4 and saw a 75" TCL for $2088

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/televisions/televisions/ultra-hd-televisions/70-uhd-tvs/tcl-75p8m-75-ultra-high-definition-android-tv/prod180788.html

Not the thinest TV in the place but that price is pretty good and I have heard great things about TCL sets from US reviews which I presume are pretty similar to the ones we get here. At that price poing the 85" at $4K is in range if I had somewhere to put it!

Be careful about that assumption.  The US models typically run the Roku OS which makes a huge difference to the functionality and ease of use of the TVs (it's the best TV we've ever had because everything just works, the search is fantastic (because it doesn't prioritize a particular service and instead sorts results by price) and all of the major US streaming services except HBO Max currently have apps for the platform) so that helps put them ahead of other models that don't use Roku OS.

It looks like the NZ models use Android TV where the experience will be different than that of the US reviews.

Actually I was thinking more of the PQ than anything else. I would probably use it with my Amazon Firestick 4K's which have all the apps listed above and more. So I don't care if it's running Roku, Android TV or whatever since it would just be a display device.

Good point -- if you just set the TCL to the firestick 4k input, which has a great GUI. No need to bother with the TCL android stuff.

Unfortunately we don't get the better part of their range here, as the likes of the 6 series seem to be North America only.

We seem to be limited to the cheaper edge/direct-lit models with no local dimming, or the QLED models, which I presume are VA panels with a Quantum dot layer, but still only edge-lit and low local dimming zone counts (16 on the X7 vs 100-120 on the series 6). Unless you want to go to the 8k X915 that is, which has a QLED panel with 120 zone FALD backlight and HDMI 2.1 ports.

I have the X2 QLED and the light bleed from the edge lighting is horrific. I really miss my Panasonic Plasma.

The new 2020 TCL range has just been announced by Noel Leeming. eg,

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/televisions/televisions/ultra-hd-televisions/49-59-uhd-tvs/tcl-55p715-55-p715-4k-led-2020-television/prod190564.html

The TCL 715 looked interesting, but you you try and find reviews, they only talk about the microphone like it is the most important feature in a TV . In my view a microphone is the least important feature and they could rip it out for all i care).

No mention of the picture quality at all!!  Suspicious of TV's that have virtually no reviews, it means they are so rubbish that noone can be bothered to review them.

It does seem like this TV is made for the India market, maybe NZ was used as a dumping ground for excess stock?

I note the 100" model is some $7K more expensive than it is in Australian outlets, dollar for dollar.

Business as usual then.

Replying to myself .. I tried the v551 and had to roll back as though it fixed fastboot it stopped letting me select the input source .. took me a week to notice, and many more weeks to remember to post feedback here :-)
