Cala7x: Any ideas on how to stop the WiFi connection cutting in and out all the time?

Move the wifi closer to the CC or the CC closer to the wifi?

What distance apart are they?

There is also this sort of device if you were within distance to use an ethernet cable.

I don't know if that one specifically works on the CCWGTV - it *looks* like it should.

It's Micro USB 2 10/100 so incompatible (& slower).

Just a PSA but I went though a couple before finding one that works. The CCwGTV appears to be really picky about USB-C ethernet adapters. In the end I got one from this from Amazon which is a bit of overkill but it works. It also does not appear to be available anymore

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QQWXM7G

The takeaway I got was it is probably better to try an adapter that is powered. So I have the CCWGTV plugged into the hub which is independently powered rather than the ones that didn't work where I had the CCWGTV using its own power adapter and the hub now powered plugged into it. But YMMV as they say.

Router restart and Chromecast restart might fix it.

My experience, Spark 659b was reliable. Wifi underperformed imo so I used Ethernet.

Spark Smart Modem 9517 has excellent WiFi. I have not used CC Ethernet for a while.

In both cases my router is less than a meter from the tv. I'm on marginal VDSL that does not help. Imo your disconnect is not directly related to Chromecast it's something else in the chain.

Personally I would avoid buying a power supply from AliExpress. More so, because you get one with CCGTV.

I honestly wouldn't touch it.

A junk no name power adapter no UL number - output could be 1.5A or 0.15A  or 0.00A?

Just needs to be good quality... who is the OEM?

We going down a garden path tbh - as pointed out earlier troubleshoot the WiFi problem first.

Interesting name.

CCWGTV power adapter isn't special, it's stock standard 5V USB charger. Any 5v unit will work provided min output = 1.5A. Cable quality is important too.

I've had success powering CCWGTV with three different USB chargers, a cheap hub, and also powered straight from my PC when running android studio for file transfers.

I hade forgotten that the power/ethernet device existed. There was more talk about external storage and therefore that made me think of the USB hub.

There is mention of the Australasian Power/Ethernet plug:

https://store.google.com.au/product/chromecast_ethernet_adapter_gen_2?hl=en-GB

Though how you get it here I don't know :-(

In case anyone is interested, I found a quite good description of how to install a web browser shortcut on the CCwGTV.

I wanted to access Channel4 (UK) and they have no app for the CCwGTV. Seemed to be driving plenty of UK people crazy as well.

The solution offered here https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/vqjony/cant_watch_live_tv_on_all4_channel_4_uk/ is to install a web browser and create a shortcut in the list of apps using a bit of code called TV app repo. The TV app repo seems to create a little dummy' app that can have a nice icon and point to a web shortcut.

So the effect is to have an app icon that will take to to the url you want - In this case to channel4.com.

Personally, I did have some issues getting the TV app repo to give itself permissions to install the little app it creates. Not sure what I ended up doing that finally made it work. Uninstalled the TV app repo and reinstalled it maybe.

Anyway - it means if you can have something that works via a web browser, you can make a nice shortcut for it to appear like its an app.
