Now this is interesting.

Have a look at the User Manual, Page 23. Have a look at the screenshot.... now what channel does it say "Buffy" is on?

Yes, interesting... But have a look at page 27. Do they know something we don't? Perhaps TV3 couldn't afford the rights anymore

Whats Movie One HD?

Not sure if it means anything but Channel 205 is currently a PPV channel. Could be HD PPV?

Not sure if it means anything but Channel 205 is currently a PPV channel. Could be HD PPV?

Since the HD content is broadcast in a different format to SD (H.264 vs MPEG2) it will need to go out on a different stream. I wonder if Sky NZ will follow Sky UK by having separate channels with different numbers (in the cricket last month they advertised Sky Sports 1/Sky Sports 1 HD as different channels) or just use the box to point to the correct stream? Next question, will SS1/SS2 SD actually go to 16:9 when the HD starts or will they stay at 4:3? And what about SS3? It's extremely annoying to say the least watching sports with pillar boxes at the moment. In fact I have stopped watching my sport of passion (MotoGP) on Sky and gone for the live internet stream because it is 16:9.

The manual refers to "HD Component Out" many times, so will component out send a HD signal? Or will we have to wait to see hard proof?

I did read your post thanks, but 576i is not HD, and the manual says "HD Component Out" (at least 720p). i guess we will have to wait till the box is actually out.

I agree I do not consider 576i to be HD, however for the last many years in A/NZ it has been considered a minimum form of HD. (edit would need to find source but also could not believe it when I read it - I think it was 576p not i)

Essentially my understanding was that anything above 576 was HD (including 720p)

same questions over here. I'm hoping SSHD1 and SSHD2 will be separate from SS1 and SS2. It's a much better way of doing it, allowing the content to be better managed.

Am also getting hacked off with crappy 4:3 feed for sports... F1, MotoGP (is apparently filmed in 16:9), rugby league, cricket, tennis etc etc. Hopefully Sky will have the rights to pull HD content of ESPN HD, but i'm not so confident about that. The IRL picture quality is poor to say the least.

again I think it was my legacy of living in Aus.

576p was classified as HD, 576i was not....

back in 2006...

The lowdown on our dodgy high-definition screens

The orphan Australian HD standard is 576p - where we have the same 576 lines and 720 pixels, but the picture lines are painted progressively. The benefit of progressive over interlaced is a degree of added sharpness.

Only the Nine and Ten networks broadcast in the 1080i format, some of the time. The ABC, SBS and Seven are using the aberrant, faux 576p format.

Let's hope that Foxtel showing ESPN HD is a good start

The Foxtel has a little info but still does not comprehensively answer the component cable question

HD COMPONENT VIDEO OUT

To connect to the component video inputs on your analog HDTV If your HDTV does not have an HDMI, connect the HDTV here

Note: If you connect your HDTV via component video, you may not receive some high definition content or you may receive some high definition content in standard definition
