Yea JBhifi palmy has display stock on sale. Probably not wise buying a display model for oled i guess

A salesperson once pointed out to me that most are sold with a new product warranty and the OEM has no idea that it is a display model, apart from higher usage hours. LG in particular seem to be quite generous with their warranty (and even just outside that) when it comes to burn-in/uneven-wear.

My only concern would just the general wear over time for OLEDs, so if you are comfortable losing a few years off at the end of its life, it could be worth it. We are talking like 8000+ hours though for 2018+ models though. While they will have most likely been cranked up on brightness, most will have not had static images, so wear is likely to be more uniform.

Is that a GZ1000 though? I know they were trying to flog off some EZ950s not too long ago.

In my experience whilst looking at different stores the LG x9 models were averaging about 4500 hours back after the first lockdown. The 8000 hour estimate is probably accurate.

I'm pretty close to picking up a 65 inch Sony X90H. Would love to afford the extra $1700 for a 65 inch LG BX but just can't.

How are the X90H buyers enjoying their TVs?

loving mine, and the wife is genuinely shocked regards how much better then our previous Panasonic Plasma (I made the same decision regards CX, not that there are any around at the moment)

The key to the X9000H is the viewing angle, if you are going to sit in front of the TV it is great, if you have a bigger room you want the 950 or spend more on the BX/CX

The guy at the shop is trying to push me away from the Sony and towards the Panasonic HX950. I'm not sure if this is him trying to get rid of stock or genuinely believes the HX950 is better.

It's really hard trying to find reviews on the Panasonic.

Could be a little bit of both really. All I can find was a FlatpanelsHD write-up on the series, not really a review.

Panasonic has good products and both their OLED and mid-high range LCD TVs have some top quality picture processing, but for me personally, it's their choice of panel + backlight type that make it a non-starter for me. IPS panels inherently have weak contrast and grey-blacks, and using an edge dimming backlight doesn't help the situation. No amount of local dimming or picture processing can compensate for those choices, so I would be leaning towards the X900h. It might still not be perfect, but nothing short of OLED is at this time, really.

It might sound like a small thing, but if you watch a lot of movies/atmospheric TV shows, it ruins the cinematic effect I find. If you are just watching a lot of Antiques Roadshow, Country Calendar, or Peppa Pig, it probably won't make much difference to you either way. On the flip side, the Panasonic will potentially get brighter if that matters to you.

This is the whole HDMI 2.1 thing on the Sony though, but at this point the roll-out has been slow and disasterous.

Be wary some sales have incentives to sell a specific product (for instant commissions) - also disappointing Panasonic not being available in major countries so as to reduce our chances of seeing it reviewed on popular channels...

I think i'll wait for a hdmi 2.1 sony OLED. The difference was quite surprising to me. Not sure I could justify buying the CX for the premium anymore

So from reading through this thread, it seems like the Sony X9000H is about the best low end 4k HDR TV available in NZ? I see on pricespy it's going for $2600 currently, which might be a bit much for me to spend? Maybe it'll drop in price on Black Friday.
I also see Konic 75" TVs for as low as $1800, and that sure sounds tempting. Of course I'm not sure if I trust the brand and it's hard to find any reviews. Anyone had any experience with them lately? I have seen some people have been critical of them in the past...

I'd say it belongs more to the mid-range, but yeah, for the discerning buyer, it is the cheapest VA FALD LED TV in NZ. $2600 is not too bad all things considered and I wouldn't expect it to move much lower than that with the current supply chain woes. If you want cheaper than that, you could always go down a size, or as you have found, go down to the budget/low range.

Personally I'd rather pay for quality, not quantity; a crappy picture quality 75" TV just makes its terribleness even more visible whereas a good 65" or 55" may seem smaller, but the higher quality panel is more rewarding I feel.

Regardless, I'd be waiting another couple of weeks to see what (if any) deals arise around Black Friday/Christmas etc.

Edit: Literally as I just posted this, I got an email for 20% off the Sony X9000H at JB-HiFi, so that takes the 55" down to $1998 and the 65" to $2470 (and the 75" down to $3888 if you are really keen!)

Some good points there thanks.
The picture quality of the Konic, is that your opinion or have you seen reviews?
I'm kinda hoping that there's a Huawei equivalent in the TV sector, ie an up-and-comer that is cheaper but is actually quite good. I've got a Huawei phone and it's been great.
Maybe that's the TCL 6 series, which I don't think is available here?

Just opinion, and more of a general comment that bigger is not necessarily better, since I see quite a few people buy their TV by the inch.

You will probably find very little in the way of reviews for those TVs, since they are at the price point where people aren't really too discerning. Most will be quite basic IPS panels, or if you are lucky VA, with no/bad local dimming and varying degrees of picture processing, app support etc.

Again, good enough for the low standards of your average consumer, but not the cheap bang for buck that you are hoping for. Unfortunately, we don't get any of the really good budget heroes ie. Hisense H9G, TCL 6 series, Vizio etc. At least they have decent panels, if slightly lackluster QC.

Thanks,

I just took up that 20% off deal on a 65", which brings it back in line to the labour day pricing.

Hoping it doesn't go too much cheaper than that over Black Friday or I'll end up kicking myself.

These things are always so hard to time.

A 75” sony X9000H arrives this afternoon.  Have fitted the wall mounting and rearranged the AVR, Tivo, Blu-ray and WiFi hub to suit.  Used a large cardboard template to decide on height and location.

Was under $4k from Heathcoats. 😀
