Jiriteach: Anyone experiencing sound issues with the CGwGTV on a Samsung TV?

Trying to isolate this new issue. It’s either an CGwGTV firmware update or my Samsung Frame TV firmware update.

Issue - Never had any problems but in the last few days, watching say Netflix on CGwGTV and after a short while and switching back to my Samsung Frame to Sky - no sound. No sound on any of the other HDMI inputs.

It’s not Sky since when this happens my PS5 has no sound either.

I have to physically unplug or walk switch off the TV and on again for sound to fix itself.
It’s as if the CGwTV screws the audio on its HDMI port.

Thanks

@Jiriteach

That points to an issue with the TV. Check for FW update.

I have two Samsung each with Chromecast's all working properly

Edit:

There's an update available for Frame TV's.

I made the changes but still nothing.  I will have to find his Twitter feed

Have you selected what TV channels you want to watch in the "Customise Channel List" ?

Its in the TV Options ---> Settings menu.

So just checked and mines running 1401 which was released in August - no new updates. Hmm - might have to reset the TV!

Interesting. The original Chromecast with Google TV 4K is running Android 10, while the new Chromecast with Google TV HD comes out of the box with Android 12.

After update bad menu lag initially. It settled down. Update may have wiped out my developer menu animation zero settings. Enabled dev menu and set those. Disney now works with my Sony XM2 headphones I hope that continues.

Installing now... I was surprised when the new Chromecast with Google TV HD came with Android 12 and the 4K version was still on Android 10.

Ancient remote batteries may have been the source of remote lag. It's better after replacement.

Oops! Just realised I had posted in wrong place.

"I'm tempted to splash $69.00. It would be an added bonus if I will be able to access "forbidden" channels like BBC, C4 using my existing VPN (Surfshark). I currently do that via my laptop and ageing CC.

An additional Q. Can I use my laptop Chrome browser  to cast or does the Google TV switch on by default? "

To view BBC and C4 from the UK using CCWGTV and a VPN you cannot do this by casting from your Laptop Chromecast browser unless you are running the VPN on your router. Otherwise what you can do is add a VPN App to the CCwGTV device as app, and then add BBC and possibly C4 apps to CCWgTV when the VPN is connected to the UK.

The Google TV turns on by default using an App controlled by a remote, you don't need to cast from your laptop although you can do that as i described above.

Unless I am misreading your reply I have to disagree. I currently can cast  BBC from my laptop using Chrome browser with Surfshark VPN (on the laptop not router). The only extra thing I have to do is choose Cast screen and go full screen and not Cast tab. I can't do this from my smartphone because CC doesn't give me the option to choose Cast screen so it's more faffing to use mirroring but it works.

I'll just have to suck and see when I get the CC with Google TV.
