The main value comes if you select multiroom, and then you get the $10 HD Ticket for free (might need to check if that was only as an upgrade for existing mySky users)

We have mySky (and yes felt pretty sore after paying 599 to get it installed last March). So now for $49 upgrade cost, we will get a second point installed, keep the existing mySky decoder with content, get 4mths free Multiroom and HD Ticket. After that it is either $25 for the two mySky units (one HDi) or return one and pay $10 mth for the HD Ticket. Hopefully by then there will be more channels so feel like getting better value out of it.

Personally, it's too rich for my blood. An extra 15.00 per month is too much just to get the double channel facility, but another 10.00 monthly for HD reception....? I don't think so :-)

I'm getting it mainly for the recording features and ease of use compared with a separate PVR option. To me the $15p.m. option rather than $600 up front for MySky1 is what swayed it. I know that in 40-something months I will be paying more but that's a long way away in this world

The HD content is just an optional extra. If I don't thnk it's worth the extra then I'll drop it.

Yes and no... We have 2x standard STB multiroom and were told that swapping one for an HDi wouldn't count for the free offer. Although she then said that maybe keeping them both plus the HDi might. I said no thanks, we don't need three decoders

Having tried that and then mySky, your decision is absolutely right.

Separate PVR to record from sky (not freeview pvr) required setting timer for both PVR and to also channel change on Sky. Often this did not line up and changes to schedule. Recorded programs were not labelled, and did not have a series link. Also two devices, two remotes, more headaches. Also my wife has a few shows she records and for 4 of them they coincide on 2 nights so the two tuners is a plus. Avoid overrun and missing part of show - ProgramA on channel 1 running into ProgramB on Channel 2. Watching on chaseplay is more efficient as cuts the ads and starts on time!

The interface on the mySky is huge step up on the old std digital boxes (in Aus the std digital used the same menu and guides as the iQ but without record features)

To me the $15p.m. option rather than $600 up front for MySky1 is what swayed it. I know that in 40-something months I will be paying more but that's a long way away in this world

For sure and need to consider the present value of $600 and the small interest saved in putting in on mortgage instead. I recall upfront payment only breaks even somewhere after 4 years (49months) which is 9mths longer than most expect.

Oops sorry there, probably should have qualified that one - I know it applied to me as a current mySky and part of the upgrade. I was not sure on the existing standard. Maybe return one decoder and remove off your account before signup for upgrade. Then when you choose Multiroom as upgrade it is an additional stb! Maybe even get the choice of free installation of a third location point (or just tell the installer to not bother as already in place), but only having two boxes. Ability to move the second box between locations.

Just aquick question, the HDi box that I'll be getting will be going where the MySky box is at present and the MySky box will be going were the STB is. Can I move the MySky box to the STB location and remove the STB prior to the technicians visit?

Can't see why not. So are you getting the 4 month deal since you are an existing multiroom customer like me?

Not sure but cannot see why not. There is no data transfer between the two and you probably would like to set it up properly to save time. Since the tech will need to test both are working to sign off work order they will probably be grateful!

Yup, at least thats what they told me when I phoned them on June 11. Its a pretty good deal as your basically gaining $50 by the end of the four months.

I read that 720,000 have Sky, 31,000 have mysky, so 2 odd million dont have either. We have had mysky since it came out and I reckon it is the best thing thats happened to TV - as well as HD. When people get it, you will realise how excellent the features are and with multiroom the hardrive capacity is heaps [ unless you record everything ] Simple to record, series link, navigation of the menus, live pause.etc, etc,etc. without having to do that on a separate PVR, we wouldn't be without it. Roll on HDi install date!

Hi geeks, forgive me if this has been covered (I have tried to look through this thred but it's taking a long time).

I am wanting to get the new My Sky Hdi box but have been given one condition by the wife before I can get it. She's happy as long as we can transfer / record content from the hard drive to dvd if needed? Is this possible?

I really hope so, I've missed the usability of my old sky from back home for years and this seems to have that and more.

Seperatley - Noticed a motoGP fan while browsing this thread, "Motogpnz", just want to make sure your aware the documantery channel is screening a doco featuring Rossi, Biaggi, Sheen, Doohan, ect this Sunday at 21:00?

The original MySky and the new MySky HDi are the same in this regard:

- You can replay a recorded programme via the VCR SCART for recording either by an external VCR or DVD recorder.

AFAIK, the output will only be in SD resolution and will use Composite or S-Video because the VCR output doesn't support Component or HDMI.

Only way to record is to playback the material from the analgue outputs into a recording device. All recording is standard definition due to content protection .

Not quite there are approximately 1.5m dwellings in NZ, not 4m, so your numbers are a bit out. I think you will find that Sky is in about 47% of NZ homes.

Just booked my HDi install for the 9th of August.

The rep I spoke to advised of the following:

- TV3 will NOT be broadcast in HD at the time of launch, this will come at a later (Yet undetermined) date.
- You WILL need to subscribe to the HD Ticket in order to recieve any FTA channels broadcast in HD
- A different HD smartcard is issued to HD Ticket subscribers which allows the HDi decoder to display the HD channels, including FTA HD channels
