I should note that JB HiFi were very helpful sending me proof of purchase for my Onkyo TX-NR609 in 2011.

I'm getting it repaired locally to save freight/time/hassles but Avalon will come to the party with the parts now that I have the proof of purchase.

You shouldn't even need it -- they know it is a design fault so should be fixing without question, right?

insane: Got my TX-NR515 back from JB yesterday, haven't had the chance to test it but Avalon replaced the HDMI board for free, even though they were unable to reproduce the issue when they tested it.

Was overall a good experience getting that fixed... now hopefully I can find a buyer for it...

Anyone want it for a good price?

Pretty much the exact same deal as mine, they (Avalon) stated no problems but replaced the HDMI board as a precaution. Got it back yesterday also and JB were pretty good to deal with, took just over 2 weeks. They had also replaced a random selection of my speaker terminals with ones that accept banana plugs.

Have had a brief play and there don't seem to be any problems so far...

AMD X2 4200, 2GB RAM, nVidia 8600GT, Hauppauge HVR2200, Windows XP, MediaPortal RC2

Hi Mantis - Just out of interest - what Onkyo AV Receiver needed the HDMI board to be replaced? Find the speaker terminals one interesting, thought I might check which model, just to be sure they all don't already accept the banana plugs - sometimes manufacturers use these pesky plastic/rubber inserts into the terminals which don't allow you to stick in the plugs without removing them. Could be a silly question... but just thought I would check! :)

The speaker terminals accept banana plugs, however, they have a small plug in them to prevent the insertion of an European power plug. You can just pull them out and use banana plugs if you want (which is so much easier than putting speaker wire onto them). I recommend getting the banana plugs from overseas as I haven't seen any good priced ones here. Aliexpress and the like.

Onkyo say "In Europe, using banana plugs to connect speakers to an audio amplifier is prohibited." thus the reason they put the little inserts in. They are easily pulled out so normal banana plugs can fit in.

I got a bunch of quite decent ones from surplustronics, wasn't too expensive given I only bought 16 or so.

I'd recommend going to aliexpress, do a search for "nakamichi banana plugs" (or any banana plugs) and look at the prices on those. I got 24 for < $15USD. Similar ones on trademe go for more than double.

I got these ones, took my 16 gauge cable just fine:

From an engineering point of view those other ones mentioned above may be better with the double screw clamps, but honestly I'm sure these will be no worse at transferring audio signals.

If you can get the other ones at a reasonable price then go ahead.

UPDATE -
10 months after the HDMI repair from Avalon (no charge out of 3yr warranty) my TX-NR609 started playing up again - intermittent loss of audio on HDMI source. Contacted Avalon for advice. Very quick replay to emails suggesting a Factory reset and Firmware update. This did not improve things so another email to Avalon. They said to take it to my local Tech who is now an agent and they would send the part down. Took it in this morning and got it back this afternoon! So far so good.
Big thanks to Kathryn and team at Avalon and TV Eye here in Tauranga
I haven't seen great service like that for a while.

I hope Avalon is not closing down. Looks like it is re-renting it's warehouse in Penrose?
