This would also allow you to upgrade to higher impedance cans later with enough amplification to drive them. Then its a slippery slope of constantly upgrading each component in turn searching for the non-existent perfect sound, or is that just me? :-)

I have decided I am done after I upgraded to the T1's, I could see myself going down a rabbit hole. I will buy one more thing, which is a really decent amp/dac combo, but it won't be for a while.

hey networkn, did you upgrade from he-400 to t1's? if so how are you liking them, and what music you listen to them with? im planning on selling my he-400 too looking for an upgrade

It's a great headphone (I previously owned the T1). Works for pretty much everything, which is one of the things that makes it highly recommended in my book.

Heya. I didn't really like the HE-400's they are heavy and sound quite similar to my HD-650's in a lot of regards. For me the HD650 stomps them into the ground. I bought the T1 as an all rounder class upgrade to my HD650's and
I'd have to say so far I am pretty impressed. I listen a fair number of female artists and they suit for that, and classical music. I haven't really found anything I hate them for, though for some reason I am having issues with some percussion, but I am willing
to entertain the idea it might be my Amplification. For $699 USD I can't strongly enough recommend you purchase them, I can't imagine better sound for similar money (or even moderately more) in any brand.

They are also insanely comfortable, something I didn't find to be true with the HE-400's, and something I consider a priority when I make choices.

For me it was the choice between the T1 or the HD800's and I struggled with the HD800 sound a little, it wasn't something I immediately fell in love with.

If anyone is interested in a set of HD650s I'm selling mine. They are about 4 years old, in excellent condition and have been well looked after. The only thing showing their age is a slight fading of the black valour ear cup on one side. Definitly doesnt affect the sound though :-)

Looking for $350 plus postage, PM me if interested.

Which LCDs?

Apart from the LCD-2 the others are all very significantly more expensive than the T1, and depending on your tastes may not offer you a lot of added benefit over the T1.

If you're a basshead or listen to a lot of vocal performances where the LCD-2s restricted soundstage (in this scenario 'intimate') is not too much of an impediment then the LCD-2 may be a good fit. The T1 outdoes it for comfort, resolution, soundstage and imaging, PRaT (ie basically everything except the bass).

Honestly I have the ODAC and O2 Amp, and it cost me about that, and I think it's pretty good. My Crack Amp is better, but you would want to be prepared to undertake a DIY project (It's a lot of fun) for that.

The Crack and ODAC together aren't working nicely for me, I have feedback issue, so I am now in the market for a new DAC, willing to spend $400.

I wasn't as blown away with the LCD's as I was with the T1's but it's hard to get a really good feel without extended listening, but for the money I'd buy the T1's.

NZTF has owned and listened to them all extensively, and I'd trust his recommendation.

I have just ordered a Mayflower objective 2+ODac hopefully that should do the trick for awhile

I think the price mentioned earlier is a current Massdrop price, unlikely to be repeated in a while so jump on it if you can.

Also, if you're in Auckland you can always audition all of these at Computer Lounge (make sure to take in some of your own reference tracks).

I have been looking for new Headphones. I currently have VMODA LP's I got them cheap from amazon to see how they fit as i was looking at the M-100's. Unfortunately they are too shallow for my ears.

I am now looking at HD558's. but they are at the top end of my budget.

I mostly want full cover open headphones with removable cable. I listen to a mix of music but alot of bands like foo fighters, block party, muse, bnl, daft punk. I guess you would say that im a bass head, but i like clean tight bass rather then the muddy over powered bass that alot of the cheap ones have.

That is true, but I think Billy realises that once people get a taste for this stuff he'll get a fat wad of cash from them in the future once the inevitable upgradeitis ensues...

I would agree entirely, though I know some that prefer it the other way around, which seems daft.
