JB HI-FI AUSTRALIA

Four new titles up for Pre-order (three Warner Bros. catalogue titles) on JBAU website.

TRAINING DAY (2001) 4KUltra HD & Blu-ray [AU$26.98] Release Date: April 10th

THE GOONIES (1985) 4KUltra HD & Blu-ray [AU$26.98] Release Date: April 10th

THE DEPARTED (2006) 4KUltra HD & Blu-ray [AU$26.98] Release Date: April 24th

SAW (2004) 4KUltra HD & Blu-ray [AU$74.98] Limited Edition, 3D Lenticular Hard Case and Photo Booklet • Release Date: March 13th

Nice, I had considered pre-ordering the steelbook of The Departed off Amazon, but this regular version is so much cheaper (unless JB Hi-Fi sells the steelbook, too). I think I'll also get The Goonies, and even though I own it already I'm mighty tempted to get Training Day also since the one I got off Amazon came in a bloody blue case lol.

Don't think I'll be getting Training Day, but I will definitely get The Departed and The Goonies to replace the Blu-rays in my SteelBooks.

I’ll be tempted by all three - but possibly my Departed blu ray will suffice. Haven’t watched it on current tele.

Would love to know what’s happening with the 4k of Field Of Dreams. Was a preorder on NZ Jb hi-fi before Xmas but then disappeared. Still up for preorder in Aussie but no release date.

I don't know what's going on with Field of Dreams and To Kill a Mockingbird. It seems strange that JBAU would keep them listed as "Coming Soon" for so long.

I see that as of now, the US release of Field of Dreams is available to buy on Amazon AU for AU$25.96 which, even adding shipping, would be cheaper than the JBAU offering. There is also the option of spending AU$59 and getting free shipping.

To Kill a Mockingbird is also available, but, only the US 60th Anniversary Collector's Edition at AU$73.27

Amazon US has a buy one get one 50% off thing. Don't know if you'd save much by the time they get here, but anyway people might possibly be interested, examples include Natural Born Killers, The Goonies, The Shining, Mandalorian S1, Wandavision S1, Speed, Barbie, The Fifth Element, Top Gun Maverick, Heat, 2001, Dunkirk, The Batman, The Ten Commandments.

Thanks Movieman, I've been considering US import option for a number of releases, but the ongoing conundrum is around bonus features typically appearing on a second disc that's blu ray and region locked. I'm currently just playing through a PS5, and only region free player I have is a 20 year old Sony, that's standard DVD.

With the recent move to a 4k TV and increasing irritation with movies disappearing from streaming platforms, I'm giving my movie collection some love again - and encouraged by some of the beautiful editions that boutique labels are producing. But been wondering if I'm better to focus on UK releases for now or to pick up a region free 4k or blu ray player to make the region stuff a non-issue.

I know that some of the US studios (especially the boutique labels) do region lock their Blu-rays, but, as you probably already know, all 4K Ultra HD discs are region free.

Shout Factory, Kino Lorber, Criterion and some Lionsgate and Sony releases are region locked, but other studios such as Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros and Disney are normally region free.

FYI: The Universal Field of Dreams 4K Ultra HD I previously commented on, does include a region free Blu-ray. There is a warning from Amazon AU which says that it is Region A locked, which is not the case here.

There is a good chance that JBNZ will stock the Warner Bros releases. They have done with previous titles, but, I can't say for certain that they will stock these three releases. Retailers are more selective with what they stock these days. Let's hope that they do.

Kino Lorber have three new releases coming soon. All are 4K Ultra HD with Blu-ray. Just bear in mind that the Blu-rays will be Region A locked.

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (2004) Starring: Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Liev Schreiber and directed by Jonathan Demme: Amazon US • March 19th

Years after his squad was ambushed during the Gulf War, Major Ben Marco finds himself having terrible nightmares. He begins to doubt that his fellow squad-mate Sergeant Raymond Shaw, now a vice-presidential candidate, is the hero he remembers him being. As Marco’s doubts deepen, Shaw’s political power grows, and, when Marco finds a mysterious implant embedded in his back, the memory of what really happened begins to return.

NORTH DALLAS FORTY (1979) Starring: Nick Nolte, Mac Davis, Charles Durning and directed by Ted Kotcheff: Amazon US • March 26th

A semi-fictional account of life as a professional football player. Loosely based on the Dallas Cowboys team of the early 1970s.

NOSTALGHIA (1983) Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky: Amazon US • April 23rd

The Russian poet Andrei Gorchakov, accompanied by guide and translator Eugenia, is traveling through Italy researching the life of an 18th-century Russian composer. In an ancient spa town, he meets the lunatic Domenico, who years earlier had imprisoned his own family in his house for seven years to save them from the evils of the world. Seeing some deep truth in Domenico’s act, Andrei becomes drawn to him. In a series of dreams, the poet’s nostalgia for his homeland and his longing for his wife, his ambivalent feelings for Eugenia and Italy, and his sense of kinship with Domenico become intertwined.
