... sooo, I think, in order to get at least 1080i into the slingbox, that I will either need to strip HDCP from the mySkyHDi decoder either with HDMI->ComponentHD converter, or with a cheap Chinese HDMI splitter...

What output is the component feed?

There is a lot of discussion at Slingbox Forum about splitters.

Can you see via Slingbox 1080i using the Sports channel, both pass-through and on tablet/iPad/PC?

Hi MC, there is a component video output (Red, Green, Blue RCA connectors) on the mySkyHDi decoder.

Didn't try looking at different channels such as sport - will try that when I get a chance. I understand that the broadcaster can set a flag on each channel to control whether the quality is downshifted to SD on the non HDCP outputs and that the Sports channels for some reason don't have this set.

They dont have that set because of the number of bars etc which distribute it as analog that would lose HD if they forced it on. So their big paying customers get to use signals convienently, but home users are screwed unless they buy another small box to remove the ineffective protections added. With the keys leaked HDCP before 2.2 is useless so they should just turn it off.

I think I recall reading that HDCP 2.2 has also been cracked or bypassed, and there is at least one box that will remove it.

I forget the name of it at the moment. I was going to order it as a future-proofing insurance policy, but it was a bit too pricey without having an immediate need.

Ok, now have the Slingbox500 hooked up to both HDMI and component video from the myShyHDi decoderm and component selected as the input. It works fine, but as mentioned, some channels are SD and some are HD on the component output.

Found the IR codes file and remote control image/model via the slingbox forums so I can now confound the wife by changing the sky decoder channel from work. Stop watching Coro St reruns, wifey! Here's some recorded PGA tour golf instead!

Since packing up the house for the renovations I can't find my Roku stick for the bedroom TV dammit.

Great news and pleased Slingbox will work for you.

A WDTV will add another useful replay link if needed and it does mean you can watch anything anywhere.

A good outcome even given the HD 'constraints' on some channels.

MC, if you use a WDTV do you need Slingplayer to cast to it? I get the impression that if using a Roku you do... which would suck.

No.

The WDTV has the Slingbox-player app built in - it simply plays the stream from your 500.

Think of it like this:

The 500 is the pitcher - the WDTV is the catcher.

The WDTV comes with the Slingplayer app built in (same as Spotify, Netflix, etc).

I read of a couple of folks who had their USA cabin in the woods. They would watch their home located 500 for Baseball with their WDTV at their cabin.

OK, that extra requirement to use your phone's slingplayer app with Roku is a drag. Much better direct on the WD. I can't find anyone selling them new - thanks for the link to the one on TM.

Yeah the great thing with the WDTV is that no batteries are required, as compared to hand held streaming/mirroring options.

Simply play it from the WDTV home screen and the remote change channel function (although a bit clunky with Sky), works with the WDTV remote.

The WDTV S.M.P (Streaming Media Player) on TradeMe is wireless and is plug and play once connected wirelessly to your router.

The WDTV Hub requires hard wiring (or wireless dongle).

Before purchasing check the TradeMe model does have Slingplayer - (I know it does because I have the same model) but just check for peace of mind.
