Hi - I'd like to distribute sky HD decoder output through existing RF cabling in my house - is there such a thing as the above in NZ, compatible with our digital TVs?
Thanks

Yes. You want a DBT-T encoder with HDMI input that supports H.264.
Depending on quality and where you source it from this will range from $250ish - $1000ish. You will also need something such as an HD Fury for US$99 (cheaper options available but these are about the best) to strip the HDCP signal so it can be fed into the encoder. If you're already using the HDMI out from the Sky box you'll also need a HDMI splitter which once again depending on the type will set you back another $50 - $100
Matchmaster sell locally if you don't want to import one. The 14MM-DM06 is a good unit.
Cool thanks for the reply...
Matchmaster unit looks good. Shame they didn't put a hdmi loop through on it. $650 trade price though - ouch.
Cheers
John
Feeling a bit silly now thinking I needed a NZ specific one... that would really just add the program guide which is a bit nonsensical for a one channel encoder.
I found only one good hit googling for HD UDF digital modulator but when I search for H.264 dvb-t encoder I find a lot more!
Cheers
John
hd-fury... wow, how can they get away with removing HDCP - is that legal?
Must be. Every Chinese device with HDMI output has been doing it for years.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
How about this:
But will it work with our digital TVs MPEG2 v MPEG4?
All NZ freeview is mpeg4, so you should be good to go.
But if its customized for AU's messed up channels with 7MHz width, it may not work on a NZ tv alongside freeview which is the normal 8MHz for a PAL bandplan.
That looks to be the same unit as several aliexpress sellers sell so may be cheaper there.
If you dont want to use the cables for broadcast TV as well then look at HDMI to 3GSDI or one of the other HDMI over coax solutions, may work out cheaper.
Good idea - thanks Rich...
Things to watch...
IR compatibility with the MySky box...
Slow IR changes for channel skipping.
I have an HDMI to DVB-T modulator here im testing at the moment.
Works direct to MySky box (no HDCP warning thus far)
Approx 0.8sec delay from source on modulated output so ok for TV but no good for a game console
Approx $500ea RRP - best sub $1000 unit ive found so far
Hi - thanks. Can you post the details and where you got it from?
I'm thinking of getting a cheapo Chinese one from aliexpress:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Binmer-Hot-Selling-HDMI-TO-DVB-T-Modulator-Convert-HDMI-signal-to-HD-digital-TV-Gift/32784966485.html
It does lack a couple of things that would be handy - HDMI loop-through and antenna-loop through. But those can be worked around.
The supplier promises it will work in NZ with H.264 MPEG-4. The good thing with aliexpress is their escrow - if it doesn't work as promised I just tell aliexpress and I get a refund.

As there are many non-HDCP capable TVs in NZ bought before HDCP existed, all Sky boxes will not do HDCP unless the box they are connected to does it. If the Sky box tries HDCP signalling and gets no reply, it just turns off HDCP. I asked Sky about this when they wanted to upgrade my decoder to the new version as my TV is from before HDCP, and they confirmed that it works like that.
If it is a single room extra to your main room use a Slingbox. It is HD, remote control capable and can also be view on mobile devices.
I did this as do many others with Sky around the house.

Or buy this for $1

Interesting - will take a look. So it will do HD over the component video? And the MySky decoder can be setup so the HDMI goes to the main TV and the SCART component video goes to the slingbox?
Yeah, but the Sky supplied modulator is SD.
