If it's not the Freeview EPG that's nice looking, what EPG do you mean?

The Sony has it's own EPG, and option to record to an external hard drive.

This sort of thing:

Oh wow, the Freeview guide hasn't changed much since i last saw it 5 years ago lol.

It can... It's Android... It's never really off unless you unplug it.

Which means it's also constantly sending stuff to Google! tongue-out

With recording TV on an external hard drive, can you record and watch another channel at the same time with the Sony? i.e has it got two tuners?

Thanks for that EPG info, Jaxson. I haven't used it as my TV doesn't have a working aerial. I just use the SKY box for tuning and recording.

Not too interested for now, but this will become my go to when my TiVo dies. I think this and the on demand options provide enough functionality to not bother replacing the TiVo with another $500+ box.

The question re multiple tuners is pretty relevant, though. PITA if you couldn't record and watch something else at the same time.

Yeah but it's only freeview.  Most of my viewing content is coming from overseas these days.  Most of the 1, 2 and 3 channels will be well served with freeview plus or the separate android on demand apps.

Can pretty much guarantee all on TV PVRs are going to be single tuners, unless you happen to have a higher grade 'hybrid' tv with a satellite tuner option, that is connected to a sat dish and uhf aerial, and where the TV PVR software allows for the operation of one without the other.  I once had a hybrid TV box, Hyundai from memory?, that had one sat and one terrestrial tuner, but it could only ever use one at a time anyway.

So are my 3 tablets, phone, and PC's... If I cared, I wouldn't have bought it  wink

No idea about how many tuners are in it... I don't even have an antenna plugged in any more (I have a Fetch with 4 tuners). I recorded something once when I first got it. I was going to recommend some family got one because their LG sucked, but they got a fetch too.

edit: here in Oz, most things with a single tuner can still record something else in the same channel group IIRC, eg Channel 9, Gem, 9 Life, 9 Go.

I setup a 65" X75 today.

Hardwired to the network and it all went very smoothly. One firmwre update that took 4-5 minutes.

The apps are surprisingly snappy and certainly enjoyable to use. The downside? There's no consistent way to exit the apps, making training people on how to use it a little tricky. The switchable 3.5mm audio out (headphone or line level) is cool and 4 x HDMI ports is sweet too.

The picture itself needs some work though, I certainly wouldn't switch to this TV over my plasma.

However a Sony OLED could be an interesting set to see when they are launched.

Agree on the snappy apps, it seems surprisingly well spec'd grunt wise.

I'm tending towards the home button to exit. Need to train the harmony remote up with the more specific options, such as a standard 'watch TV' custom button to always be able to get back to that.

Kodi is frustratingly non standard also, as it's designed around a One button type UI approach. Need to see if I can use pause, rewind buttons on the remote for Kodi.

I'm impressed with what you get on the Sony for the price. The integration isn't seamless though as you say and the picture needs some work. Get that motion flow rubbish off asap for example.

I  have "Watch TV", "Watch Smart TV" and "Watch Netflix" on my Harmony One+

Makes life pretty simple.

The "back" button exits 99% of apps no problem, then changing activity to get back to FTA/PVR.

Seriously, try Plex... Run a plex server on something. I run it on an old laptop.

It's pretty much like having a Netflix with all your own content, and damn fast on a Sony.

99.9% of apps I have use the "back" button.

Which apps are different?

Turned on the TV this morning and it wanted to update.

After the update everything, and I mean everything crawled to a halt.

Apps loaded slower, sluggish remote control response... hopefully it comes right.

Had to adjust the startup delay on the harmony out a bit longer as it wasn't taking the live TV command always on startup.
Added that command in to the startup process too, as an additional command to make sure.

Starts really quick if it's in an app/resuming an app, but live TV can take a while.
