chiefie: ALSO... once you've set up using Logitech Harmony, don't go messing up turning on and off with the normal remotes as it messes up your Logitech's remote harmony...

If/should you need an equivalent usage of your normal remotes in discrete form, use "Devices" button...

I don't even know what you mean here by "in discrete form", but I'm under the impression that using the "Device" remotes are no different to using the normal remotes. The Harmony only keeps track of states in the Activity mode.

wow, that's as much as the Harmony remote itself and more than teh actual PS3 remote, ouch.

Yeah true, but it is one remote to control 'em all!!!

p/s: Once you paired it to PS3, your previously paired PS3 Bluetooth Remote Control will not work after - as they both occupy the same controller #7 spot.

Hi,

Managed to get the remote working with most of my devices that use video 1,2,3 and HD, DVD inputs but still unable to go directly to any of the HDMI inputs. So its sort of a fix, but still left with two remotes instead of seven.

With my setup, I have buttons to directly access AV inputs on the TV, but the HDMI is a toggle between two HDMI inputs.

I have "solved" the problem of which HDMI input is being used by adding a soft button that toggles the HDMI input. Less than ideal, but if the TV gets out of sync, then I can push the soft button and that sends the same commands to change the HDMI inputs.

Sorry - it's not a solution to your problem, but it may give you an idea for getting yours to work.

Discrete means there is one actual command per input. This means you can always force the TV to go to one input at any stage.

Some TV's don't allow this and the Harmony is flying blind because it never really knows what input is being displayed on the TV. This is where you need to add a soft button to allow you to manually flick between them. It's not ideal, but it works.

Adding a special button for toggling hdmi inputs means you're back to just the one remote too, so it's worth chucking that in there.

The Harmony BT PS3 adaptor means you can relocate buttons onto your harmony remote in any way you want, which is very useful for the PlayTV addon. The bluray remote has no native record buttons etc so it's not ideal for PlayTV, where as the harmony can be set up much more like a proper PVR remote would work.

It's not for everyone, but yeah, I'm down to just one remote for everything by purchasing that adaptor. Also means my remote has buttons that glow in the dark if I need them to, which the official bluray remote doesn't.

I found this became much clearer when I selected devices, TV Settings, Adjust Inputs and then this screen comes up, this makes the state management much clearer. Thanks again to Bazzer.

Just to be clear too, you must have a look to see if there are discrete codes in the database for your device, even if they are not on your actual TV remote control.

My Panasonic TV does not have discrete input buttons on the remote (because this would mean another 8 buttons on the remote). However, in the harmony database there are discrete inputs available, so I was able to set up the activities to work fully automatically. So yeah, check the input commands available for your device to see if they exist, it may save you some heart ache if you're lucky.

I got one, and have just set it up and started to tinker. It looks good. However, I wish I could say the same about the software that comes with it, clunky and slow. And, for some reason, whenever I start y computer Zonealarm tells me that "Logitech Desktop Manager is trying to connect to the internet" - without me having told it at any point that it could do this, launching it manually, or having the remote connected to the PC. I regard software that does things like this without haveing been given permission as highly obnoxious.

The Logitech Harmony client is an HTA packaged as EXE... It needs to get on the Internet to obtain its remotes database. Just set it as approved application in ZoneAlarm.

What Windows are you running? I'd replace ZoneAlarm with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows Vista and 7's built-in firewall (plus if you're behind a NAT-router) and with decent AV, you should be sweet. No need for more crapware to hog up the system.

When I last tried the logitech software couldnt handle my mini system which has several play buttons for the different sources, but some are only available by cycling thru, so it would send a play for something which would change, then its cycling lost track of what input it was on. Have they sorted this out? I got it kinda working by having it send a CD PLay and then stop and then the function button 4 times for getting to AUX in reliably but was a pretty crap kludge.
