Welcome to the Weekly 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & SteelBook Release Schedule for Thursday May 09.

The Departed (2006) should have been released on May 08, but is now showing no release date, so I will add it to the coming soon section, along with American Sniper which has no release date assigned. The good news is that Dune: Part Two will be getting a SteelBook release in NZ, to accompany the Standard Edition and 2-Film Collection. Surprising additions to the JBNZ website are US Imports of True Lies (1994) and The Abyss (1989). Many additions, dates and release links also included this week. Australia has two new releases; The Beekeeper (2024) and Ocean's Trilogy. Both are included in JBAU 20% off sale (Ends May 12), so it would be a good time to grab them.

THE DEPARTED (2006) is now available to purchase at JBNZ after it's release date was removed from the website.

It's still showing the incorrect artwork. Here is the correct artwork  #3206383

We spend a lot of time complaining about all things JB, so they deserve a little praise when they do things right.

As part of their Cult Classics line; Studio Canal UK are releasing a SteelBook Edition of:

RED SUN (1971) 

Available from Amazon UK: July 29th

With a cast made up of stars from America, Japan, France and Switzerland, directed by a Brit who brought James Bond to the screen and written by the scriptwriter of The Magnificent Seven. Red Sun is a buddy movie with gratuitous violence and nudity. It's rated by no less an authority than Quentin Tarantino as one of the best spaghetti westerns ever made, alongside the likes of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars.

Charles Bronson and Alain Delon are robbers who hold up a train and steal a shipment of gold, and a samurai sword the Japanese ambassador was to present to the president. When Bronson is double crossed by his partner, he joins forces with the ambassador's sole remaining samurai guard, Toshiro Mifune, to hunt down the treacherous Delon. Also starring Ursula Andress and Capucine.

Looking forward (depending on price obs) to 4K of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) towards the end of June from KL.

I've definitely decided to wait for the Dune: Part Two JBNZ SteelBook. SteelBooks in NZ generally hang around for a while, I might even be lucky enough to snag it in a 20% off sale if I'm brave enough to wait. If I miss out, then, the Standard Edition will do. I quite like the artwork on the SE.

Another SteelBook I would like to get is the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire release. Not announced for NZ yet, but neither was the Dune: Part Two SteelBook until yesterday. Fingers crossed.

I have only been able to find one design for GxK which is a US Walmart Exclusive and an HMV UK exclusive. There may be another design coming, but my guess is that we will get the same artwork as the Walmart exclusive (I guessed wrong for the Dune 2 Steel 😁). I'm not a huge fan of these monster films, but they give my sound system a great workout.

I quit buying SteelBooks a couple of years ago, but the collector in me has always kept an interest in them. Now, I'm totally smitten again, although I will be more selective this time. If the artwork doesn't grab me, then it's the standard black case for me.
