250 300 less if they r good...was looking at rha

There are a lot of VERY nice IEM's in that price range. Personally, I think you could find something really outstanding for around $150-200

SpartanVXL: Bugger, missed out on the massdrop hd6xx. Well now i'm signed up to massdrop so I have more things to spend money on :p

Ha, you and me both. I signed up on the final day but the drop had already finished. Today I received an email to say they were doing the HD58X Jubilee again so I bought a set of those to try instead.

I have a set of HD595's with a fiio E10K at my office and need something else for when I'm working at home, so I'll see how these go.

Found a good price on a pair of the new Sony WH1000XM3 from a supplier I trust; so went ahead and locked in a pre order/back order due 1st October

1 x Sony WH1000XM3B Wireless Noise Cancelling Overhead Headphones Black
@ $414.40 each ($360.35 excl GST each)
On backorder - expected to ship Monday 1 October

I looked at the same supplier for the XM2 model, but they said there was a 6-8 week time from order .. as soon as I made the enquiry, the price went up to RRP - which is why I made this order

Hopefully the expected ship time is correct, though I have a few more weeks up my sleeve before "needed"

Bugger, a week after my HD58X Jubilees arrive the HD6XX are back with a 24 hour drop.

I've been quite happy with the HD58X. Not quite as comfortable as my HD595's but I noticed way more in the music I listen too in the first few days of using them. Geezer Butler and Bill Ward in Black Sabbath's Paranoid album are particular standouts.

So what do I do now ?

I'm by no means an audiophile and am not going to be spending thousands on expensive kit, but I have really enjoyed having a Fiio amp and the HD595's the last couple of years.

Are the HD6XX's likely to be much more of a step up ?

You'll presumably sell your hd58x for something so it's only The difference you need to worry about.. That way you can try both and decide for yourself

I'm not worried about the money, but should I expect a significant difference in sound quality ?

Subjective I know, but it's still a thought.

the HD600 was my first proper headphone. i was amazed that I heard stuff on music and video that i've never heard before.

then eventually bought my way up to an LCD-2 Fazor. it actually wasn't as detailed as the HD600 but man, everything sounded orgasmic. it was that good. but it was darn uncomfortable. to the point of torture.

so i sold it.

and now nothing comes close and i've been in withdrawal for about 3 years.

bought the HD6XX and after using it for 1 minute it got onsold.

so whether it is an improvement for you i don't know. it is very very detailed, you hear everything, but to me it's boring, there's no body and no life to it.

My Massdrop 6XX headphones arrived today.

I have to say that, even out of the box and not run in, I am very impressed. I won't have much time to listen to them as I am travelling tomorrow and they will be staying home.

I hooked them up to the very competent Quad DAC in my phone (which is quite capable of driving 300 Ohms) and was somewhat stunned. Even using Apple Music files, I was hearing things on tracks I know very well that simply had not been present before - or at the very most were present only as vague suggestions in the overall sound. For example, I played Circle Game by Joni Mitchell and you can clearly identify every individual voice in the backing group rather than "some voices in a backing group".

Colour me impressed.

I love my HD6xx as well. They are so nice to listen to for hours and hours, lots of details I’ve never heard in songs, nice bass and such a smooth warm sound.
Then I swapped from listening on a phone to a Topping dac&, wow! I see what people mean when they say these headphones scale well.
This is starting me down a slippery slope, I’m now looking at tube amps lol.

I think Engadget is just late to the party.

The XM3s have been getting lots of good reviews and have been discussed in this thread. I have serious lust after them.
