As someone who owns the UK Titanic 4K release, I can say that it looks superb and is a massive upgrade from the Blu-ray release. If you read some of the many 5 Star reviews online, they will set your mind at rest.

The UK release includes a Blu-ray of the film, which the US doesn’t. Amazon AU sometimes have it at a good price, which is where I ordered it from. You do need to spend AU$59 to get free shipping and there is usually something else available.

There will always be detractors, no matter how good the transfer is, but, in this case, I strongly disagree with them.

ToPGuNZ:

I have 100 Blu-ray titles and did not think I would want to upgrade any to 4K Ultra HD but after following this thread for the last few weeks I think I will. I also have some extended sick leave for surgery coming up that will give me some free time to watch these. I got Top Gun Maverick in 4K when it came out and pleased I chose the 4K version at that time, then got Dune 2-film collection recently, then yesterday picked up Lord of the Rings trilogy in the JB HiFi sale. It dropped about $15 just before the sale so is now close to $40 off from that list price, now $92. I have chosen the next two I want to upgrade and will see how it goes from there.

Thank you Movieman for all your work in providing great information.

Congrats on your small but quality 4K collection. I have all of the films in your pic and congratulate you on your choices. Always do your research before buying any titles as some catalogue releases can be disappointing.

If you can trust them! I bought a Blu-ray of a TV show from Amazon US, and it had plenty of 5-star reviews and lots of gushing about the video quality. I got it home, and it was apparent within seconds that it was upscaled from SD.

What does everyone use to catalogue their Bluray/4k/DVD collection? Is there a Discogs equivalent app for movies?

Welcome to the Weekly 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & SteelBook Release Schedule for Thursday June 27th.

Godzilla x Kong Standard and SteelBook Editions, plus the 5-Film Monsterverse Collection are the big new releases for both Australia and NZ this week. Until July 3rd we can get 20% off these and other titles at JBNZ. The mean guys over at JBAU won't give a discount off those films, even though they also have a 20% off sale until June 30th. Although there have been reports that The Crow Standard Edition will be delayed, nothing has been confirmed but the JBNZ site hasn't included it in their sale, even though it still has July 3rd as release date but the SteelBook Edition is in the sale. JBAU have the Standard Edition as "Coming Soon" and EzyDVD have a date of September 4th, so, I will place my bet on a September release. SteelBook looks to be on track.

Right, I'm going to the JBNZ website to get my 20% discount.

I use My Movies on iOS.

I's weird to use with movies sourced from lots of different countries since the barcode scan functionality is a bit iffy.

I think a lot of people use blu-ray.com. Personally I use lists on Letterboxd. I think blu-ray.com is one of the best ways, as you can list the exact releases and regional variants you have.

Geez, you guys are so fancy, I'll have to check out these services. I'm just using a Google sheet ☺️ which saves me from ordering duplicates 😆

My memory is pretty terrible, so I have in the past bought duplicates while browsing in-store at JB. You only have to do that once before you might as well have bought an app or something!

I have compiled a fancy list/database on my word processor, but I also log my collection on Blu-ray.com and I use Letterboxd to keep track of the films that I have watched.

I just built a simple database with title, poster art, length, and timestamp when credits kick in. I've hooked the lights up to it so that they fade out and back in at the appropriate times, coming up to half brightness over the credits and back to full once the movie completes. There's also a bit of logic to handle older films with overture/intermission, but I'm starting to put a little more strain on the word "simple" than it could reasonably be expected to bear.

I'm using MovieBuddy on IOS,  it got a bar code scanner the works most of the time, plus a manual look up.

you can also add tags for the Format type etc, + it has all the regular categories of TV/Movie/Director/Genre etc
