Okay, anyone made any purchases from the two JB 20% off sales? My patience finally paid off as I picked up Dune: Part Two SteelBook from JBNZ.

When browsing the whole website, I also came across The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Fast X SteelBooks which were only $23.98 each, so I just had to buy them at those prices 😁

I have pretty much become a SteelBook collector again and the next one in my wish list is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

I intend to hold out till next Wednesday, and pick up the steelbook for The Crow, and maybe mab the two-film Top Gun set. Considered ordering now online, but would rather not factor in the post as not sure how well JB packs them.

Also, noticed Amazon has dropped the Taxi Driver steelbook by 35%, but excitement cut short when I realised they've removed free shipping, so it's barely a saving. Buggers.

These local releases for Paramount titles are interesting, including more standard versions of the Paramount Presents series. Had I known, I prob wouldn't have bothered with importing the pricy version of Once Upon a Time in the West, as the booklet covers don't really do it for me anyway. It's a shame the Chinatown release doesn't use the old film poster as the cover -it's probably my fav movie poster of all time.

mailmarshall: What does everyone use to catalogue their Bluray/4k/DVD collection? Is there a Discogs equivalent app for movies?

I use the apple app called iCollect.

Has a bar code scanner and you switch between other collectibles.

I went into the South City store yesterday for the first time in months, and bought The Beekeeper 4K. I also went in intending to buy The Super Mario Bros. Movie steelbook as their website said they had it available but it was nowhere to be seen. The sales people confirmed they had none there, so I just ordered it online from them when I got home. πŸ˜€

Been there done that, their stock management can be a bit hit and miss, things tagged as BluRay are there as DVD, etc or not at alll  πŸ˜€

To be fair though, I only looked on the website in the morning when it said it was there, and gone in store in the evening. So they could have sold their copies earlier in the day.

Upcoming release from Arrow Direct.

The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) Limited Edition: Theatrical & Director's Cut - UK Store GBP£25.00: US Store US$35.00:  - September 16th/17th

Following the sleeper success of their breakthrough sci-fi/horror smash Pitch Black, writer-director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel reunited for 2004’s action-packed The Chronicles of Riddick, an expansive and ambitious sequel that took their eponymous antihero to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Riddick (Diesel) is an intergalactic fugitive whose dark past catches up with him when he is lured out of hiding by Imam (Keith David, The Thing), another survivor of the planet of horrors they barely escaped from five years earlier. Now out of the shadows, Riddick is identified by an ethereal emissary (Academy Award winner Dame Judi Dench) as the descendant of an ancient race of warriors who may be the universe’s last hope against the Necromongers, an evil army of fanatics intent on bending the world to their will. As enemies close in on all sides, including the ruthless Lord Marshal (Colm Feore, Thor) and his scheming lieutenant Vaako (Karl Urban, The Boys), Riddick finds himself a reluctant saviour of the cosmos, with only his razor-sharp wits and cunning killer instinct standing in the way of total annihilation.

At long last, Twohy and Diesel’s hard-hitting outer-space epic has been restored in glorious 4K, with hours of incisive bonus features exploring every detail of this densely-constructed and masterfully-executed mythology.

Upcoming release from Arrow Direct.

Friday the 13th (2009) Limited Edition: Theatrical & Extended Killer Cut - US Store US$35.00:  - September 17th

In 2003, director Marcus Nispel made a lasting impression on horror fans with his box-office-topping remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Six years later, he turned his camera to another slasher icon, none other than the hulking masked killer Jason Voorhees, in his gore-soaked remake of Friday the 13th.

A group of oblivious teenagers choose Camp Crystal Lake as the destination for a weekend getaway. Among them, the young Clay Miller (Jared Padalecki) is not looking for fun and frolics, but for his sister Whitney who disappeared around the lake six weeks earlier. The trip turns into a waking nightmare as the bloodthirsty Jason emerges from the shadows, wielding a deadly machete and out for blood. Cut off from civilization, these youths discover too late that Crystal Lake bears the scars of a violent past as they uncover the terrifying events that spurred the masked killer’s quest for violent vengeance.

Nispel’s taut direction and the stunning cinematography by Daniel Pearl – whose credits include the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre as well as the remake – bring a fresh and terrifying new perspective to the infamous hockey masked maniac, sure to bring chills and thrills to even hardened horror veterans!

Well, they must love Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in Italy. Amazon.it have FOUR 4K SteelBook options on their website.

One of them is the same artwork as the US release, but the other three are different (although artwork is not final). A Black and White Steel will be available with the Black and Chrome Edition, which they also did for Mad Max: Fury Road.

I also got the Dune SteelBook, and was lucky enough to get Andor too. Which has made me realise that Letterboxd isn’t going to cut it anymore as my catalogue tool, since it doesn’t support TV shows (only miniseries) and Andor is my first show on physical media.

I use Emby to play my stuff (like Plex but better...), so I just filter for 4K movies.

One thing that irritates me as a SteelBook collector, is studios not including inside artwork. When I started Blu-ray SteelBook collecting, there were many releases that came without inside artwork. Since those early days, most of the SteelBooks that I have bought always had artwork inside... until now. I searched online for an unboxing video for the Fast X SteelBook that I bought online and which I have yet to receive. I was interested in seeing what the art looked like. Watching an unboxing informed me of the fact that there was no artwork inside this Steel and furthermore, there hadn't been in any of the other matching Steels in the series.

In the early days, collector's started to insert there own artwork inside bare bones Steelies and they looked fine... but, there was something missing. The spines needed art as well, which was gonna be a giant pain. After I creased and bent a couple of spines in my period of trial and error, I finally came upon a system for removing the spines and putting them back on without destroying them. It's fiddly, but so rewarding. It's several years since I pimped my last one, but I'm gonna have a go at Fast X. I've found my template and added and printed the artwork onto nice glossy photo paper. I just need to cut the sections out very carefully and they will be ready to go.

Why would you bother? I hear you ask. Well, it's because true SteelBook collector's want the best possible product and many of us are OCD. It's just something we do 😁
