Does the Samsung do Atmos? I think the Panasonic does THX as well making it better spec
The Samsung and the Panasonic both support bitstream audio over HDMI, and therefore Atmos, DTS:X etc. I've had (and currently have) a lot of THX certified equipment, and I've never considered it worth the price of the logo ink.
Magness Benrow have the Panasonic DMP-UB900 on special at $1050 but doesn't include any movies. JB Hifi matched the price and also price matched a couple of 4k movies from The Warehouse pricing and then knocked a couple of more dollars off. Never hurts to ask what bundle can be done.
Just wondering is Panasonic DMP-BDT278GK is a 4k Blu Ray player?

A quick Google search would seem to suggest it is a Blu-ray Player with 4K upscaling only.... NOT a UHD Blu-ray player.
I have a 4k TV now, not because I had a particular interest in 4K, but because my previous TV died and the model that ticked all my boxes as a replacement just happened to be 4K as well. I have yet to try a 4K clip on it, even though I have a media player that is 4K capable and there are undoubtedly test/demo clips available for download.
I will probably move my setup to 4K eventually. But at the moment the player options seem expensive and limited, and without a broader selection of 4K disks at reasonable prices there isn't much of an imperative to spend the money - esp with house renovations currently making big inroads into my bank account.
Having friends who have been burnt (SACDs, and expensive CRT HD TVs that used component inputs, which because essentially useless until the HDFury came along) I am wary of being an early adopter; wary of HDCP 2.x changes, and wary that the format may not really take off (3D DVDs anyone, or a Betamax video for those with longer mmeories?).
I tend not to move on expensive stuff like this until I'm confident the format will succeed and, more importantly, until the DRM has been irretrievably compromised (just like Macrovision, CSS, CGMS/A, CPRM and HDCP 1.x have already been). Otherwise there's a risk of being stuck with an expensive boat anchor.
tangerz:thanks, that's why is so cheap.honz:Just wondering is Panasonic DMP-BDT278GK is a 4k Blu Ray player?

How long is the UHD 25% off discount available for? it's not online, so would need to go in store.
The Samsung UBD-K8500, it's still $NZ260 more expensive than our aussie counterparts... why such a large difference.
I talked to an Aussie 'in the industry' last week and he said he'd seen far more failures from the Samsung unit than you'd expect. Hopefully they've fixed the bugs for the Blu-ray's that hit the NZ market.
