This afternoon I've noticed a blob or some kind of pixel issue on my new LG tv. It wasn't there is am or yesterday and I have no idea what has happened. The tv hasn't been touched at all. I had a few issues after I got it with excessive back light bleeding/leaking which seems to have fixed itself (or otherwise only noticeable when watching low quality downloaded shows) when I called LG about the light leaking issue they told me to do a factory rest which I did and it showed no improvement so i've done the same today and it hasn't helped at all.

I'm going to call LG about it tomorrow but thought i'd check her to see if anyone has a quick fix or know what it could be.

Thanks

If its not a greasy mark on the surface of the screen it looks a little like the panel has a bubble in the lamination.

If its a greasy spot then maybe you can fix it with a little light detergent and a very soft cloth, otherwise, send it back.

I'll try give it a clean but I'm pretty sure it's not a greasy spot.
Thanks for the help.

Spoke to LG who suggested it might be a burn. I need to send pictures to them but the person I spoke to was a bit useless and after asking her to confirm the email 3 times, it's still wrong! Urgh frustrating, i've had such bad luck with their customer service. Since it's still in warranty, am I able to ask for a replacement rather then them saying it needs to go in to be fixed?

That is a fault on the panel.  If there is excessive backlight bleed as well as that, then my guess would be that the TV has had a good whack in transport etc, and/or has been transported lying flat rather than upright.
Fixing it would require replacing the panel - but while they could probably do that, it's probably easier for them just to replace the TV.  Keep pushing them.  The comment about "burn" sounds like the person didn't know what they were talking about.  "Burn" used to happen with Plasma, and while LCD panels can be damaged by heat, that comment sounds like ignorance or an attempt to dodge liability.

I definitely got the feeling that she had no idea what she was talking about and she wasn't very helpful at all and tried to tell me the closest service repair place was in Te Puke, i'm in Palmerston North so that's about a 5 hour drive away.

Surprisingly, as I binge watched Orange is the new black on netflix yesterday, I noticed it slowly got smaller and this morning the blob was completely gone. Could it have been anything to do with the temp of the room? It was pretty cold the day it showed up but i'm completely baffled by it.

I did send pics to a LG technician and I will wait to see what they say about it. Since it's gone should I still push to get it fixed or looked at?

Maybe they meant 'burn' as in heat bubble - it looks a little like where someone has stuck some plastic decals on something and got an air bubble.
Even LCD panels do get a little warm with use - I suppose its really the electrics behind that gets warm.
Wonder if its warmed up the layers in the display.

I wouldnt be too happy about it though - it is new.
You have a right to expect it to be perfect.

Weird - perhaps it had impact from something in that area and in time, the laminates smoothed out.
Didn't you say that the panel also had excessive backlight bleed?  If so, then yes - I'd still be pushing for replacement.
If not, then I'd probably be happy to keep it, but keep records, photos etc, so if the problem returns you can show that you'd expressed concern about the possible fault earlier.

I have a friend who had a very similar looking blob on his new Dell All in One PC - it looked as though there was liquid inside the screen and the text/image under the blob (which looked bigger than the OPs) was out of focus.

I don't know who makes Dell's LED screens. Must ask him whether he got it sorted, or if it just went away like this one.

Some of the higher end Dell screens are made by LG (formerly LG Philips) plant in China.  I had a problem with one of their monitors - a few years ago now.  They sent me a faulty one with a similar blob on the screen which didn't go away, then I had a whole series of "returns" sent to me instead of a new one - a couple of which had the same fault as the original one, and another which had a good screen, but would cut out after running for an hour.  At one stage I had three large boxes with borked Dell monitors in my spare room. Sick of dealing with the Philippine call centre, I sent an email to Dell c/- the lawyers they use as a registered office in NZ.  I had a phone call within 1/2 hour from their "escalations manager" in Sydney, within 24 hours they had a new monitor air-freighted from China and delivered to my doorstep.
These companies - basically all of them - demonstrate that they can deliver good customer service when pressed.  It's a shame it's not their default position.

I'm expecting to hear back from them In the next day or two and have decided at the least, I want them to send someone to look at it cause I just don't think it's quite right and I'd like to get someone else's opinion, preferably someone who knows more than I do and what they're talking about.

The backlight bleed is sort of the same, as it was a really bad problem then a few weeks later it fixed itself.

I'll also be keeping documentation and photos of everything that's been going on cause I just worry that the warranty will expire and I'll have to spend lots to get it fixed.

Have you talked to the retailer? If you bought the TV new from a store, then I would think that would be a good place to start i.e. for warranty or CGA claims.

Yea I got it from JB hi fi and they were the ones that said to speak to LG. I have been looking up my rights as a consumer and it says I have the choice of going to either the store or manufacturer and either one should sort my problems out. I haven't heard back from LG yet but will speak to them on Friday if I don't hear from them tomorrow.

If there's a fault, you are within your rights to return it to JB and let them sort it.

We had a 55" LG TV for about two weeks and it was terrible. Light bleed issues, picture was slightly off.
On white screens one half of the panel was fine the other half looked brown. Colour bleeding etc.

If you google LG light bleeding there are forum post after forum posts of people reporting issues.

The only thing that worked well was the passive 3D best we've seen.

Long story short we returned it. I wont be buying another LG.

I would take it back to the retailer as LG support we found was a waste of time and spent most of it stalling.
