I've just setup my own HTPC running NextPVR and Plex (on an Intel NUC), with lots of help from @davidcole.

My query is, what cool stuff are others doing? I'm keen to explore what else is possible.

Got a remote yet?

Mine (Gigabyte Brix) has NextPVR on it (as a client) and kodi (both talk to my nextpvr server).  Tee windows 10 Plex client, the software for my IP cameras and chrome (used for streaming Sky Go, ITV or any other site).  Of course, if I'm in chrome the remote is next to useless as most sites don't allow keyboard navigation.

Gathering dust at the moment.

Will be used as Plex client, and for wife to watch TVNZ OnDemand.

Mine's not getting a huge amount of use - it's there for watching TVNZ OnDemand mainly (that's why I only got a cheap Minix box) but also runs Plex Home Theatre client and has a Flirc attached so I can use the Harmony remote to control Plex (which does not respond to the wireless keyboard trackpad). Given that Plex is now on my AppleTV 4, and TVNZ On Demand might be coming soon, it could very well end up as a high-tech doorstop. I think I need to explore Kodi and some of the cool plugins you can run on it.

90% of the time mine is idle also.  Find it more convenient to use the roku3.

Yup will also hopefully will ditch the Intel NUC and switch to the Apple TV 4 permanently, if the new live TV streaming app from DVBLogic works OK when released later this month.

I still have my server with the TV tuner cards in it, in the cupboard.

Another one gathering dust, the inability to use streaming services via the HTPC software interface using a remote was the killer for me after many years of HTPC use. I now have an Apple TV and an Amazon Fire TV and use Plex for local content. Also, have a DishTV T2200 Freeview DVBT PVR which supports FreeviewPlus for OnDemand.

If only one box could do it all :-(

My pet peeve also.  You would have though the addition of keyboard navigation would be a simple thing to add, and would make like so much easier.

Home Server: AMD Threadripper 1950X, 64GB, 56TB HDD, Define R6 Case, 10GbE, ESXi 6.7, UNRAID, NextPVR, Emby Server, Plex Server.
Lounge Media Center: NVIDIA Shield TV 16GB: Kodi18 with Titan MOD, Emby.
Kids Media Center: NVIDIA Shield TV 16GB: Kodi18 with Titan MOD, Emby.
Main PC: Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB RAM, RX 570, 2 x 24"

Yep.  I have three activities programmed into the Harmony: Vodafone T-Box, Kodi, and Windows 10.  The first two are 100% remote compatible.  As soon as I hit the Windows 10 activity on the remote it's a change to a Logitech wireless keyboard.

From the Windows 10 menu I run YouTube and Netflix apps, Lightbox (via the browser) and all the other Win 10 stuff, but it's all strictly keyboard/mouse-pad controlled.

I think using a keyboard (Logitech K400) is a very small price to pay for a box that really does do it all, and is likely to in the future.

I use mine for:

TV via WMC

Netflix, BBC iPlayer, UK Channel 4 & ITV. Sling TV ESPN for the super rugby. All via Unotelly.

Pandora for music.

Interests: HTPC, Web App authoring.
