I've just set up my HDHomerun again and see that it can pull in quite a bit of guide data from the Freeview OTA signal.

I used to have a working setup with EPG Collector, but wonder now if this is even a necessary step when using Freeview only?

The data is now transmitted in the more common EIT format so most of the time it'll "just work" now.

The answer is both yes and no. the full EPG has been transmitted in EIT for probably close to a year now, but it uses Huffman coding so any software that doesn't support this won't be able to display it.

OK, thanks. I haven't looked at any of this side of the HTPC for well over two years so that makes sense that it's actually relatively old news.

FYI, NextPVR reads the EIT data just fine.

My tvheadend setup doesn't need any external information, but my Dad's WMC setup still needs EPG Collector.
