For about $200 including shipping you get an awesome device IMHO. Planning to buy one as I love the simple UI,want it to replace my Kodi Android TV box.

Android TV 6.0 doesn't get amazing reviews... But you're right that it's cheaper.

Just a matter of support, and different OS. Osmc should run faster and better.

I assume it's using an AMLOGIC chip (905x?) and all he is doing is profiteering off the community's work to develop decent Linux support for these chips?

An Odroid C2 with LibreELEC would achieve 99% of the same thing for less money. Only difference would be the Kodi skin used.

Sorry, but that's not correct.

We contribute heavily to Linux and Kodi: contributions to Kodi, LibreELEC (see example) [1] and the fact that we support one million Raspberry Pi users without asking for a single penny.

The device won't be for everyone, but it does work for people that just want to buy something that works for the next five years and not worry about anything. We will maintain support until at least 2022 for this device. If anything goes wrong in that time, you have 24 hour support and quick, guaranteed resolution of any problem with your device. A lot of people like this.

This isn't a make a quick buck and fly by the night operation.

Profiteering, no. Making sure that OSMC is around in the future for the users who love it, yes. And we're giving them a device that's above and beyond anything else out there and offering official support.

If you want a device to see why OSMC and Vero 4K are a great fit, let me know.

I am now, yes!

Thanks for your kind words and for helping support OSMC. I really think it's going to be a good year and we're going to get a lot done.

Welcome to GZ Sam - I am also a long time user and donator to OSMC (Raspbmc previously). In awe of all the work you and the rest of your team have done and wish you all the best with sales of Vero. I recently purchased a couple of your OSMC remotes and use them with my RPi based OSMC clients - they are fantastic and it was nice to contribute to your cause by purchasing something direct.

Stoked to have you onboard GZ!

I'm torn between going w/ a R-Pi 3 vs. the Vero 4k. I love the flexibility you have w/ a Pi to be able to repurpose simply by swapping out a SD card. However, the tech specs on the Vero 4k are great for a media player. Does anyone have a comparison of performance from a Vero 4k vs a Pi3?

Thanks for any insight,

@echo35 see a review here. They're saying it's faster than an RPI3.

my problem with these is no netflix, no hulu etc.  a single device for one app seems the wrong direction these days.  true android tv boxes (not a chinese box running android), fire tvs etc are more bang for your buck.

As of Kodi 17 there is a framework in place to allow binary addons I believe. At least now there is the potential to support Netflix etc, but until then my main box is the Nvidia Shield for the reasons you stated.
