I am about to hit the button and buy one of these Veon 65" 4k tv's (model SRO654K2016) but first am interested if anyone have any real world experience with these or knows of any major shortcomings, I am not worried about the built in speakers or lack of smart features

My expectations are realistic afterall at $1k it is the cheapest 65" 4K on the market by a long shot, the user case is a lounge based home theatre setup, audio running through a 5.1 setup, video via HTPC and chromecast. Will be replacing a 6yo 42" Panasonic FHD which does all we 'need' it to do at present

good price, im tempted, but my 55" 1080p veon i bought a year ago has rubbish sound/picture.  harmony remote support is annoying (no ir codes for jumping to a direct input, so it has to cycle the menu, which can get out of sync), no audio output.  it has become the kids tv due to quality.

this model appears to have optical audio output at least, so thats something.  would have to use a hdmi switcher for remote to simplify the harmony issue though.

curious to hear opinions from people who own this exact model though.  that price is very tempting...

Have you googled for other threads on Veon TVs here on GZ? There was this one here which started last year but includes recent posts http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=195044

Agree it's a sh!t-load of TV for the money, and the three year warranty and TWH's fairly generous returns policy means the risk isn't great (or the loss isn't huge!).

I'd be tempted to buy one to replace the kids' 11 year old "HD" plasma, but I'm assuming it'll still lack the discrete output controls on the remote meaning it's impractical for control by a Harmony remote... (EDIT - good point in the post above: just use an HDMI switcher!)

I think most of us have the same sentiment, its only a $1k, bang for buck how bad can it be?!

I don't own a Harmony remote so no issues there

I searched as deep as i could last night but came up with little other than it appears to have only come onto the market in February this year

I'm thinking i will take one for the team and report back in due course :D

How wide is the table that's holding it as they  have very wide feet unlike some of the main  brands which have center  feet??

Personally I would like to get a 4K at some stage that isn't smart. It would seem the only options are the cheap brands unfortunately. Has anyone seen name brand 4K that isn't smart?

65 non 4K version I've got - was waiting for 4K to get cheaper with more android tv support - back lighting is a bit rubbish, speakers aren't great but most annoying thing has to be the lack of remote codes - even the warehouse one 4 all remote that says supports all veon tv's doesn't appear to support that one! So only way is through a learning remote but that meant no ability to find discrete power off and on if it has any.

it does say it's a Samsung panel and again for the price it could be worth a gamble

Don't forget you'll be paying GST and duty on anything from Dick Smith.

 I don't think so.

I clicked it through to the checkout page and it says the price ($699 + $29 shipping) includes GST, and there is no duty on TVs in NZ.

i have bought monitors off the nz site and only paid the asking price. It took about 10 days to get it and arrived intact.
