I'm struggling to work out how to do this ahead of a couple of quite important cricket matches ;-)

I have a Sky box running to my Denon AVR2500 via HDMI; in turn the Denon is connected to HDMI 4 ARC on a Sony Bravia KD-55X8000C.

Having endured some awful Aussie commentators (looking at you, Steve Waugh!)  I am wanting to go with alternative audio - BBC Test Match Special over 5 Live Sports Extra. This can stream to the AVR by Sonos to the optical in or line inputs, AirPlay, Bluetooth - plenty of options.

So how do I assign images to HDMI to the TV but audio from somewhere else without losing the images? Currently all I get is audio with Denon plastered all over the screen....

All suggestions gratefully received - ideally before 2130 tonight ;-)

Thanks in advance

Not familiar with Denon systems - so not sure if it's possible to do what you're thinking of, but happy to be corrected tho. But a fidgety work around could be to plug your sky feed directly to the TV and selecting that source and muting the audio, then using the Denon to play the audio source of your choice..

With that set up, as your Denon is hooked up to the TV via ARC, you should be able to get the audio from sky through your Denon too if you wanted switch between audio sources...

That's a good thought, and I might end up doing that - ideally I think I need to set up some preset to allow Mrs B to get it running.

Yamaha's allow you to assign different audio streams over the top of HDMI video.
Spotify / net radio etc.

With your Denon have you tried the input settings and set it to optical / RCA for the HDMI input your Sky box is connected to?

Will have a go: I guess I need to assign one of the inputs to HDMI out plus optical audio in; label it TMS, and just use it for the cricket. I need kick the family off the TV and investigate :-)

Thanks

Ok having spent some time on this I suspect the best bet is a Bluetooth speaker cunningly placed by the screen.
What a cop out! Oh well. All that AVR goodness going to waste ;-)

Some times simple is best :)

However I have my Sony connected to my Denon via the ARC HDMI port, and then everything Video oreientated connected to the Sony. Mostly due to the Sony remote being easier to use than the Denon one

You can force the Sony to use the TV speakers via The Action menu, then Mute the telly.

Then select the audio input you want on the Denon

Thanks Clinty - we have a Harmony Elite which is better at switching on the AVR than the telly, I think reflecting ethernet control rather than IR to a 4 year old TV. I had a furtle round the back of the AVR to see about switching stuff around and decided life was too short!

It's actually sounding pretty good (Naim Muso QB). I think we will manage ok :-)

Cheers all
