Im trying to get Sky digital set up on Media Portal RC2 but have no idea how to go about this.

The setup

Sky is comeing in via a PVR150MCE via the Svideo socket, I have it all working in VMC but getting it to work under MediaPortal RC2 is causeing me a real promblem, does any one know how to configure Mediaportal TV Server for Sky via the Svideo on the PVR150, any help would be great.

Have you gone to the PVR150 listed in Mediaportal/TV Server config and clicked on the 'Add SVHS/VHS Channels'?
This will add a few strange looking channels under TV Channels.
You can get rid of them all except SVHS #1 - This is the S-video on the PVR150.
That's as far as I have got as I only use my Sky STB for Prime.
Not sure where you go next to get all the Sky channels listed and how to get MediaPortal to change the channel on the STB.

If you have an IR blaster IR server suite will do the channel changing.

Cheers guys I added in SVHS #1 to the MediaPortal TV server and now have Sky running in Media Portal however its only showing up as SVHS #1 in the Media Portal guide and TV channels how do I get it to list all the sky channels in Media Portal so I can add a EPG too them ??

I have only done it for prime, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for other Sky channels....

Cheers Dingbatt I had a look but its not what im after.

In VMC when you tell it to use the Svideo (on the PVR150MCE)it automaticly set the guide up with all the sky channels you then just have to get EPG data in to then via a 3rd party hack/softwear, in Media Portal telling it that Sky is comeing in on SVHS #1 doesnt split it off in to all the sky channels so you cant set up any EPG as there are no channels to list the EPG data I have too, this is the trouble im haveing, its a real bugger as this would have moved me over to Media Portal fulltime

In MediaPortal (TVServer) TVSetup you need to manually create an analogue channels for each SKY channel, they'll have svideo as the source and then you just need to setup the blasting configuration so that when you select that channel MediaPortal will start taking input on svideo and it will blast the channel number to the sky decoder. From there you can import the EPG data via XML or what ever you want to use.

Hovwer if you also have DVB-S card then you scan in the encrypted sky channels, combine each encryptd channel with it's matching analog channel. Now you have 2 sources for the channel, analog and DVB-S; that is the channel is mapped to 2 cards. BUT you want to make sure the the DVB-S mapping is "EPG Only" since it can't actually be used for anything other than EPG data. What you end up with this good realible EPG data direct from Sky. no nasty hacks and xml download scritps etc.
It works very well, I should know I wrote the patch!

And yes switching to MP full time is a good idea! I wish someone would fill up the NZ wiki section on using Sky+Analog+Infrared blaster. I would but I don't have sky and never done the setup. I know people have done it though! Com'on time to contribute! You know who you are!

Cheers for the info, but what a bugger how many channels does Sky have ?? seems like a lot of work to get those channels in via Svideo im not sure if I can be botherd setting up over 100 channels that way , Ill have a look though and see how involved it is. Once again cheers for the info, i wounder if GBPVR is easier.

It took me about 15 minutes with distractions, and i get distracted very easily. Just need to grab the keyboard and the latest sky mag and it's pretty quick. My only concern is even that it's still the same input mediaportal still treats it as a complete channel change, so you get the delay that otherwise shouldnt be there.

Also i have to half redo my setup because we now have HDi which uses different IR codes and i removed the tuner card so all the mapping are gone.

Look mate you're trying to setup a sweet HTPC and you're worried about how long it's going to take you create the channels!? I'm telling you now and most others here will agree that getting a sweet HTPC is time consuming and fraught with headaches and hair pullling. If adding the channels is the hardest, most time consuming part then you should feel very lucky! ;-)

Im not worried about the setup time at all, its all about trying to get the HTPC away from the wife :) I get very little time to play with a all ready working VMC HTPC telling the wife im only going to make it better gets little responce when it all ready does eveything she wants.

But I will be giving it ago this week as I really want a all in one solution for Sky, DVB-T so I dont have to switch between VMC and DVBViewer..

Mcraenz, if I can ask, what is the point of Hauppauge HVR-2200 AND SkyStar 2 AND Technotrend S1500+CI AND Hauppauge PVR-150? It sounds like you have a small broadcast relay station working out of your house .

To clarify as I'm only just jumping on the HTPC wagon, are we at the point now where we can completely ditch the awful decoders with equally awful software for our own PC's now? If so it's time to do some homework.

As someone who runs an HVR3000, an HVR2200, a Sky Digital Decoder (Pace) and a Strong DVB-S STB, I don't think Mcrae's setup is excessive at all

Lack of access to the existing rig sounds like a perfect excuse to go for a complete new build so you're not interfering with viewing while you come up with the 'perfect' HTPC

Yeah maybe I got a bit carried away at some point!

I started out with just the SS2 for DVB-S (before freeview; just TV1 and TV2) and the PVR-150 for analog. Then I added the Technotrend+CI, and a 1M dish with 3LNBs to pickup A couple of Aus channels and whatever was on Optus B3 (Now D2) this was just for the sake of it!. When I did my rebuild for Freeview HD I added the HVR2200. I figure now I have about as many channels as I can possiblily get without paying a subscription (and without going C-Band) And yes, most of them are crap! Using sky on a PC with out a STB i.e. with a cardreader etc is really exciting stuff, it's been a goal of HTPC builder for SOME time; now if only I wasn't too cheap to folk out for a Sky sub!
