Hey guys,

So my girlfriend really wants a Nintendo Wii, but our HTPC in the lounge does all the tuning etc, and is currently running on a big computer LCD screen that only has DVI.

I know, I know I'll get a proper LCD TV soon but I cannot afford it at the moment.

My HVR-3000 tuner has an S-Video input so I figure I can connect the Wii to this, but I've never seen S-Video on Media Center, so how do I get the picture up on the screen??

Hmm not sure if you could get this to work. To setup the s-video input you need to setup a STB in media centre as that is the expected use.

However media centre requires a ir blaster to change the channels on the STB. There are ways to fool it into thinking there is a IR blaster when there is not but it would also mean that the wii would be a "channel" on TV

Think you could do it but would not be nice.

There is a delay in MCE for video inputs, 2-3 secs. So any game consoles would be useless.

Hop onto deal extreme or ebay and there are heaps of component to hdmi converters that should see you right.

HTPC will be unplayable, the converters I have tried were fine when given progressive signals. Get a component cable at deal extreme while you are ordering since svideo doesnt allow progressive output.
