Nice, I wonder if it's worth an upgrade from 1.0.2?

Nothing really unusual about a warning notice like that for any RC (Release Candidate) software. Anyone using pre-release software really should accept that there could be problems with it, and in the extreme be prepared to reformat and rebuild any PC that they install the software on.

The smart approach is to take a disk image prior to installation of pre-release software that can be restored if significant problems are encountered.

Let's face it, every version of MediaPortal is basically a beta. Even the *.final versions are. Look how long it takes for SVNs (which are essentially patches to fix glitches) to appear.

Given the open source nature of MP & all the third party plugins, etc., there is really no other way to accomplish what they do.

Let us know how you get on! Since mine is in use, instead of in bits, I probably will have a harder road to justify an upgrade.

So far its running smooth as, i've been doing things slowly and setting up customization and codecs etc exactly as i want.
Going to work on content tomorrow, TV, Videos, Pictures, Music - havent set it up yet.

What codecs are you using? SAF? Or Other? After I was forced to replace my HVR-2200 TV tuner card, I reinstalled an early Ghost image & went from there. I had no problems & it is working great (had issues trying to SAF with my previous images: no DTS via passthrough). Will upgrade MP after the Olympics are over.

I've moved away from codec packs, all manual now, due to having issues with codecs in the past and wanting to have a very clean install. SAF and CCCP would be two that are quite nice as all in one however

I use the latest SVN of FFDShow Tryouts. Ive set this up to upscale any non h264 video to my full resolution, however haven't enabled any sharpening or other ffdshow features.

I have ffdshow audio set to pass through every audio type that my receiver can decode, which is connected via optical. All other non dts/ac3 5.1 sources are encoded as spdif and sent out

As a test, i'm using it for almost every codec, including TV (they now have DXVA, it shares a codebase with the MPC-HC codecs). Today i set it all up exactly as i want but im yet to test out the performance of TV with this codec (my tv reception currently causes errors, so it'll be interesting to see how it handles those, as well as fast forward/rewinding).
haali splitter + flvsplitter.ax from the mpc-hc codec package help out also.

Still in the testing stage but so far this looks like it covers all bases for playback. This will be the first time the HTPC is setup hopefully without any flaws.

Lastly, im using an 8500GT, my motherboard has a HD4200 onboard, i think keeping the 8500GT is probably the best choice.

I have been waiting for this release. I have now upgraded the dog that is Vista to Win7HP and installed MP1.1.0RC1. Using the KISS principle I am using the MS DTV codecs and all seems to be good so far. I don't use the HTPC for anything other video than Freeview so I have turfed al the other codec packs.

What version of Mediaportal are you currently using? I ask because anything afterMP ver.1.0.2 (I think) will not allow correct playback of 1080i (TV3) H.264 broadcasts without major stuttering. A graphics card upgrade is required. Or are you on DVB-S?

Im using DVB-T via HVR-2200.
After testing, turns out due to a MP bug only Microsoft h264 wants to work. Which is fine for me because it works perfectly. Aside from my signal being crap that is, which it copes with well.

An 8500GT will still run ok (thats what Im using currently), not perfect but generally acceptable - it'll have a little stuttering from time to time - I normally notice it in the news more than anything.. I had a bit of a play around with a ATI 4550 and that seemed to be working pretty well - not 100% sure as the test rig I was using was hooked upto a 15" CRT which is particularly crap to start with :)..

I found that MP 1.02 could handle 1280x720 res on ATI HD3200 hardware, but 1920x1080 res was just too much. So output resolution can be a factor.

Who knows, maybe 1.1 tips HD4200/3200 back into the game at full-hd?

How did MP updates break the performance of DXVA? I have a 3.1ghz tri core, i wonder if thats helping.

Guess it's PC system spec specific. Mine was really unwatchable with an 8500GT card. I stuck with an earlier version of MP until my 8500GT card failed & I decided to upgrade to a 9500GT. I RMAed the card & got a replacement. Anyone want an 8500GT that works (tried it during my diagnosis of my HVR-2200 tuner card failure) for a good price?

Thats odd. Every version of MP my 8500GT has worked fine.

And i just underclocked it to 420mhz (default 460mhz) to keep the temps down as its passive. Still plays TV3 perfectly fine except for the signal screwing up. GPU load sits at around 60% ish and 250mb/512mb of memory used.

I've used the Cyberlink codec in the past and now im using the microsoft DTV one with win7.
