I came within a hairs breadth of getting the Pro 3 (i5 256) but heard whispers of the Pro 4, so held off. The exchange rate will hurt a bit but glad I waited. For what i will use it for, the Book is overkill and a bit too expensive. Is a shame though, there still isn't a proper storage for the Surface Pen. I see the cover has some kind of attachment for it, but more than likely i will lose the bloody thing if there isn't a secure location for it!

  • put it in your jacket pocket
  • clip it in to the pen fold of the Type Cover
  • use the pen loop in the keyboard
  • magnetically attach it to the left of the Surface Pro 4

I guess I'm just spoilt by the internal storage of the Samsung Note and its S-Pen.
If you just buy the tablet then the magnetic clip is the only option, right? So they supply the pen with the tablet, but no secure way to store it. Maybe the pen is too thick to fit internally.
I definitely wouldn't put it in my jacket pocket, that is a recipe to not have it with me when it's needed. It's a first world problem and won't stop me buying one.

we could have made a dinky little crappy pen too

but we didn't, it feels like a pen.  Surface Pro 3 is 9.1mm  Surface Pro 4 is 8.45mm

the Pen is too thick

what would you do?

The bolded bit would have sufficed as an answer.

But since you asked, I would have designed a chassis that incorporated an alcove for the stylus even if it didn't totally encase it. So that it was protected from being brushed off the side of the tablet when it is put in or out of your bag.

the pen is too thick/the device is too thin, is the same thing

it feels like a real pen.  we're not going to ship a dinky little thing crappy pen

there is a strong magnet on the left hand side of the Surface Pro 4/Surface Book that holds the pen in place.

Is there any difference in a business vs. consumer model in the Surface Pro 4? Also, can you pre order one from business suppliers yet?

yes commercial resellers are taking preorders

the main difference between consumer and commercial Surface Pro product is the support.  Commercial customers are eligible for free Advanced Exchange (ie forward replacement for warranty issues) as well as being able to buy a Commercial extended warranty (MS Complete for Business, which provides 2 device replacements for accidental damage for 3 year warranty)

The new SP4 256Gb will be selling at $2,349 on MS website. Noel Leeming is having a "Special" for the SP3 256Gb at $1,599. Is it worth it with the SP3 with $750 savings?

Compare the processors vs your requirements then you have a pretty good answer.

I'm torn between the i5 model with 128GB storage and 4GB ram and the i5 model with 256GB storage and 8GB ram.

I plan to do some moderate productivity tasks on Office, Photoshop while web surfing at the same time. Which model should I go for? If only there was a 128GB model with 8GB ram...
