Our local school has had three generations of HP Chromebooks, all have been susceptible to partial keyboard failures. The chiclet style keyboard is a hassle for serviceabilty and the official part is the entire top plate which seems excessive/wasteful/expensive - especially with kids as target users. Has anyone had experience with Chromebooks that you consider especially rugged and also easy/cheap to service commonly damaged parts?
Being school owned, I don't think the CGA would apply? And even under the CGA, they mostly survive the first year of the standard warranty and I doubt you could really make the case that a high wear item like a keyboard being used by kids would be not expected to fail. Treating them as a consumable item would be OK by me if it was a more reasonable procedure and cost for replacements.
Looking around at similar issues with HP Chromebooks, it seems like some that aren't physically damaged might be able to be fixed up with some strain/pressure relief for the ribbon cable. Will check a few of those out when I can.
