Also possibly one for the angry thread, I've just been setting up an original X1 for sale and was astounded at how cheap and plasticky the current lot are compared to the original models. I mean apart from the obvious signs like the keys lifting, the black paint on the plastic blistering, and flaking off in other places (including areas with no wear), it's just flimsy and plasticky. The fabulous IBM-era keyboard is gone, its degraded to something about halfway between the chicklet keyboard used on other laptops and the IBM original, it's more cramped, the screen quality is nowhere near as good, the whole thing feels like a toy. After using the current one, a Gen6, for awhile, I'd forgotten how well-made the originals were, and how rubbish the current generation is in comparison. And this is Lenovo's flagship laptop.

Given that an E14/E15 is less than half the price and has slimmed down quite a bit to the point where it'd have been called an ultrabook ten years ago, why would anyone pay so much extra for a rubbish-quality X1?
