Ask Samsung. It's up to them.

If it's anything like most prior Samsung updates they're approved by the networks and can take anywhere from a few weeks up to a few months before Samsung add them to the rollout map.

Considering most of the world doesn't have Lollipop for the S5 yet, I don't think you can really say we're slipping behind.

Given Samsung's track record you will probably have an S7 or S8 when the S5 finally received the update.

There will be custom ROMs you could use, or Google Edition. It'd probably void your warranty and trip the knox flag though.

I got tired of waiting for the update for my S5 (SM-G900F), so I rooted my phone and put a UK lollipop 5.0 firmware on it.

There are a surprising large amount of countries where 5.0 has been released and it was very easy to root.

I got the new 5.0 firmware from SamMobile. Have been running 5.0 for two weeks now and it's working well. The battery life even seems better!

If you really want Android updates, dont buy Samsung.
Im on my 4th Samsung device, its a re-occuring theme. They really dont seem to give a rats arse once they have
sold it to you.

Ive learnt i have to live with what the device came with.
But lets not mention all the useless samsung apps that cant be removed (I like touchwiz though ,I must be one of the few ?)

Samsung do update flagship devices, just slowly. If you really want to be on the latest version best get a Nexus though. Since Samsung devices are so popular CyanogenMod or third party ROMs (like Google edition) tend to be easily available.

Download Samsung Kies, connect S5 to PC with USB cable, Kies detects that new firmware is available for install (Android 5.0 - wahoo!), click update..... nothing happens....

:(

Had me going there for a while... maybe it might work for some people??

Yes but this only counts if you have the sm-G900F, as some carriers started distributing a variant sm-G900I which includes band 27 LTE I'm guessing there will be a fragmented rollout even within the S5 range. One of the reasons I transitioned to an iphone.
