I see there's an interesting W850 decision investor presso on the telecom investor microsite - there's a huge capex increase to bring forward full nationwide 3G deployment and talks about an 'extensive fibre programme" presumably to support this build.

$33 million to dump GSM. I'm sure another operator would have happily paid for that a prebuilt network! :-)

Telecom shares down to $2.43 - it's hard to keep greedy investors happy..

I'm sure this will be cleansed soon - 97% pop coverage isn't the same thing as 97% land coverage!

it now says:

It was mentioned during the conference call. I posted in my Twitter: Alcatel-Lucent is doing the wok. All my Twitter posts around that time are comments about the conference call.

I couldn't find this statement - where is it?

The statement "3G where 97% of New Zealanders live and work." (which is population based) means that the 3G footprint will be much the same as the current mobile voice footprint.

I'm a Telecom marketing manager and you can talk to me. I'm responsible for tactical mobile competition in our business customer segment.

Interesting write up about Alcatel Lucent.... hmmm i would prefer them doing the roll out over Nokia Siemens i think. Ericsson missed out, incummbent makes sense i guess.

Interesting write up about Alcatel Lucent.... hmmm i would prefer them doing the roll out over Nokia Siemens i think. Ericsson missed out, incummbent makes sense i guess.

The rumor mill has certainly been working overtime in recent months but I think it would be fairly safe to say that while Alcatel-Lucent are building the network had it not been for Ericsson trying to get back into the NZ market then Telecom may not have gone down this change of direction quite so soon.

97% of where people live work and play. Note the network infill is in full swing and potential new sites will go in to new areas going forward. Where CDMA is available, WCDMA will be available.

The error was corrected on the page proofs with the correct population based coverage figure but for some reason the online amend simply added the OR rather than replace the previous. The correction's being done now - normally alts stage to a production server and go live overnight.

It doesn't surprise me that it's Lucatel - we all know Telecom's not beyond rattling cages to get prices down. I feel for Ericsson, they were pretty keen to get back into NZ in a big way.

I missed quite a lot of the "Telecom dumps its GSM network" action - I did hear a rumour they had arranged sale of the kit though. Can anyone point me in the direction of threads about this?

Now based in Perth WA.
