I too am abit annoyed, a few days ago HTTP Downloading from Downthemall was faster international and local all time of day but now it seems only national and youtube going faster than other servers. Even downloading a linux iso from a non nz server is slower than normal....its a tad put off doing any http downloading anymore...

Yes, the only 'fast' or 'proper speed' website I am able to access is Youtube for some unknown reason. Torrents also fly through the roof during off peak hours, which in itself is strange, when http is slow 24/7!!

Isn't it because quite a lot of the videos are locally cached on youtube?

And as many users have found, the local data is still being accessed at max speed

Many users have found this, but not all.

Something from the gpforums

Guys i spoke to a telecom level 2 tech representative, and their explanation was very detailed. It seems its not a problem on their end but a problem with the global gateway company and the company that manages the traffic management for the plan, the excuse i was given was very reasonable and really does sound like they aren't ****ing around.

The company that is managing the traffic management ****ed around as we all know and screwed up the traffic management, and basically is trying to obtain examples from customers who are having problems, but its funny, the telecom CSR believes that the network company they are dealing with is saying there is no problem on their end when other customers aren't having problems and etc, but telecom stating that there is some issue there. I was told that it should be resolved in another 1-2 weeks hopefully.

Also the plan should go back to normal as it was, and no changes should be made at all.

Nzpossum, so... Telecom is blaming someone else? Who are these other people who they're blaming? PM me the name of the company, and I will contact them personally!!
Also, another 1 - 2 weeks? Come on!

Uh, no.  The business relationship is between Telecom and that company, and they will have no interest in talking to you - in fact they'd probably hang up on you (you not being their customer and all).  This is standard operating principle in business arrangements.

This is exactly what Vector and United Networks do if you call them.  I've done it before.

This sounds very reasonable to me too. I've sent examples for them.

Its a pitty that the first level support people weren't more informed about this. When you ring them.. they just have no clue about whats going on.

Guys I have been talking to the producer of Fair Go and they are aware of the complaints. Many people have complained but they said they need more people to come forward and complain, and if they do, then they will run a story on Telecom very soon.

Go here http://tvnz.co.nz/fair-go/feedback-726685 and make a complaint to them RIGHT NOW. They want people who they can call and verify that there is an issue. Please do this so we can get a story against Telecom.

Complaining to them now, come on everybody, lets give Telecom what they deserve for shafting us!!!

You do realise that no company should be required to deliver a service where they are making a loss? If the plan can't be profitable, there's only one other logical solution for Telecom.

It sounds harsh, but it seems most posters here want a $2000/month connection for $60.

Cheers - N

That CSR's response is a palm off, Global Gateway is part of Telecom.

Surely international bandwidth is a sunk cost for Telecom at any point in time they have X users on Big Time and Y Mbit/s available to those on the plan at Z contention ratio.

It's simply a matter of getting the management rules right (they are fairly broken atm, even before http rate shaping was implemented).

I agree alot of the emo rants and insults are not helpful at all, however much of it could be curtailed by clearer communication by Telecom.
