What the Heck?
I just had to have my HG659b replaced because it refused to connect to the internet. (Ont connectivity confirmed, modem connectivity strangely not)
But I get a HG659b to replace it, :D

we had an issue there so switched back to hg659b for replacements for a bit.

replacing with 659bs isnt anything too wrong though. they work just aswell, just dont have the awesome wifi of these.

Will I be sent the new Modem for my new Fibre Connection though?

Give it a factory reset and things will be a bit smoother.

As for USB storage, it's not a supported feature but yes it does work.
I've requested a few improvements are made there.

@beehappy if the SparkNZ site advises it supports VDSL then it does, I would go back to the store and correct them

This is a tad confusion over an informer that has gone out to agents.

There is a unique condition of linecards on adsl that fail to sync. The newer firmware fixes this however until all our stock is updated we aren't keen to risk it (so offering hg659b in this case)

Just had one of these installed, with fibre. A couple of questions -

1. I have been using a ubiquiti AP (much better than the old huawei modem, for WIFI). Will continue to do so. Do I even need this modem - can I plug my ubiquiti AP straight into the (chorus) ONT?

2. Can I plug a hard drive into the Spark Smart Modem? (I could plug a small drive into the old, huawei modem; but not a decent sized hard drive. Easy way to get some network storage?).

Sorry if these are off topic, I'll try to get answers directly from Chorus if they answer the phone...

Thanks

Gavin
