nzpossum: Thanks for the update Mortiis. As for who is doing 1.5TB a month, that would not be impossible for extreme rapidshare downloaders but would be rare as you would have to be downloading almost 24/7. The most data i have used in 1 month was about 350GB. Usually i do between 80-120GB.

Yeah, you'd have to be a pretty big bloody downloader to do that, and Rapidshare accounts don't even have a limit of 1.5TB on them so whoever is maxing that kind of download ammount... they're doing it some other way!!!

I usually do about 160-260GB.

I have no idea how you would get 1.5tb downloaded, and if there is even ways around the shaping? I cant think of any ways around it.. Vpn's are shaped, proxy's are no good, those two would be the most common ways.. usenet etc is also a nogo.. i may be out of touch with other methods however? I use 40-100gb a month depending on the month.
I hope they can resolve it sometime soon. A rebate? hmm ill believe it when i see it ;)

I sent a email to the commerce commission today with a carbon copy to Telecom.

sure BT is a managed plan. But when it falls below an internationally recognised minimum standard considered for broadband, this is not acceptable.

GOOD ON YOU mate, shaft Teelcom the same way they've shafted us BT customers. I have been a Telecom Customer from LONG before they even HAD broadband (okay, showing my age here!!), but have seriously considered ditching them over the past week.

I'm loyal, what can I say!?

The problem is the comcom take 6 months to look into anything.. Need something a little more fast paced. The fairgo option would be a better one.

Already complained to Fair Go, so have many others from this forum, and friends of mine who're experiencing the same problem. Hopefully this is dealt with accordingly.

I had Telecom all you can eat dialup, It was $24-95 a month.

Oh wait! I still have all you can eat dialup. It is now $60 a month.

You could do it but you'd have to buy about 40 euros worth of traffic share, you normally get 25GB per 5 days anyway.

BUT... nobody on BT would ever be able to do it because Rapidshare is 24/7 managed by Telecom anyhow on Big Time... (it never used to be but has been for the last 5 or 6 months for me).
So... it's virtually impossible to do it on Big Time.

From what I've seen on gpforums there are plenty of guys abusing http downloading eg: Rapidshare, Megaupload, Hotfile etc etc, Usenet on obscure ports, private NZ only bit torrent trackers and some interesting tricks to bypass shaping.

There are definately quite a few extreme users out there milking it for all it's worth.

I bet their methods ain't working for them right about now ;-) Also, to get around the traffic management system, you'd need to be pretty technically advanced, I would say!
