Ok just noticed something. I was going to port my Telecom XT number to 2Deg, and in the drop down list where it asks for your current provider, Skinny Mobile is in there as an option. Just incase anyone didn't notice that already. haha

billgates: Yes. I just went to the local dairy and asked for one. They did not know about it, so told them to press '3' on their eftpos terminal and it printed one straight out.

Love it - we haven't launched yet and already making sales Cool.  That means the beanies will have to do some work for December now.

I have just joined Geekzone so that I can answer your Skinny questions, when I can.   Can't say too much at the moment though as we haven't launched.  However, it isn't far away.

Am I allowed to mention our www.facebook.com/skinny page here?  If not ignore that.  There are details on there about our brand launch at Rhythm and Vines, underway at the moment.

Prices seem really good. I'd like to switch but the man's phone is voda only and he refuses to buy a new phone. Argh. Since we mainly talk and text each other on bestmates I guess I'm stuck.

Bestmates isn't restricted to only vodafone numbers anymore, so he could pick your skinny number as a bestmate.

That is provided he is on a smart plan or a prepay smart plan with a $35 or $45 add on as far as I can see. If he is on the SIMple plan or supa prepay plan then the best mate is still restricted to the Vodafone network

Yes, we're on supra because simple doesn't have bestmates outside a plan. Most of the time this works out fine since as I say we only rarely need to call other people- we use the land line for that; but overall if both of us were on skinny it would save us money and be more convenient when I am away from home and need some data or some non-husband call time.

I guess I can't complain too much though, most months my six dollar bestmates is my only cell cost thanks to wifi at home and work. His is the same except a single weekly call from the gym to the pizza shop.

Still, it's excellent to see those skinny prices. Hope the others follow suit. The web site is very amusing, love the kid speak. I think those plans really suit casual users on a budget; I've got an elderly friend getting her first smart phone (we were picking it up this morning) and we'll be picking up a skinny sim right afterward. As a fellow casual rate user it's going to suit her even more than me since she actually makes calls.

Ideally for us it would be great if voda would make bestmates non carrier dependant  and I could switch to skinny. Or if voda changed their casual rates to match skinny. Don't see either of those happening soon but I didn't see the Berlin wall falling either.

Actually now that I think of it and do the maths we're probably better off on what we're doing, but for my elderly mate she's probably still better off on skinny.

Now if skinny had those low casual rates AND had a bestmates monthly six dollar add on I'd have to seriously consider buying the man a new phone and switch! How about it skinny? The kids you're aiming at might like that for their BFF's too.

I was just wondering have you dialled *#06# and put the IMEI number in the app on their website to see if your phones will work on their or should I say XT network? Cause if your phones will work on the network then all you would need to do is get 2  simcards and port your numbers over. I took the plunge yesterday and checked my wife and my phone out and it came back and said that both our phones will work on it. So I rung skinny up yesterday and ordered 2 simcards for ourselves. For my wife it will be a saving of $20 a month and for me (as long as I keep within the weekly allocated minutes as I don't do much texting) $40. I like the free calls to other skinny customers until the end of April as well. So we will try it out and if all goes well we will port our numbers over and continue with them.

Yes, did that. Mine will, his won't. But as I said, for us it makes financial sense to keep doing what we are as long as there is no bestmate on skinny and we mostly text and call each other with the occasional call elsewhere. If skinny got bestmate it would be worth me buying him a new phone and switching us over, at least as long as their low casual rates for data, voice and text kept on.

And yeah, I agree, the free calling incentive is a really good one.

If you are referring to the free Skinny to Skinny on-net calling this expires at the end of April then reverts to the normal retail rates.

When trying to use the 'net (after changing the apn settings) I'm getting a "Connection not activated" error even though I made the call.

tardtasticx: I thought Orcon Mobile owned the 020 suffix?

Orcon, Vodafone, Telecom and TeamTalk have all been allocated?numbers in the 020 range.

http://www.nad.org.nz/NonGeographicalCodes.php

Yep... they have...

Odd. Thought Telecom may have decided to reuse their old 025 code.. Vodafone could have added new numbers in their 021 range by making some of their 6 digit numbers into 7 digits.. Heres hoping that the number format is 020 + 7 digits with all of them..

NSN length is a minimum and maximum of 9 for the 20 range so this means all numbers will be 7 digits.

Unfortunately not.  They are a mix of 7 and 8 digit numbers in the 0204 range..  which is 10 and 11 digits total length.  I thought in this day and age they  couldn't mix like this??

Regards,

Old3eyes
