Spark is an improvement but to do away with that brand recognition that "Telecom" has seems insane to me. Imagine Apple rebranding at this point. They would be better to spend their money elsewhere for what it's worth.

Behodar: I've always found Telecom to be a very "bland" name... it's a telecommunications company (a telecom) called Telecom. Personally I think that Spark is an improvement.

Indeed... Telekom Malaysia was widely known as "Telekom" (Telecom in Malay)... then few years back they rebranded slightly to "TM" and suffix it with products' brand like "TMnet" for internet service etc. Singapore Telecom or SingTel the similar, all in all... a niche name for a bland utility service can be quite refreshing... Though Spark is right up there for "interest new name that to be associated with telecommunication"... but they've outlined their services that is not just "telecommunication" but more a complete "media services provider".

http://sparkshould.co.nz/ ... that's a bit embarrassing (linked from the Telecom home page).

[Edit: It's working now, but at the time of posting was going to a Freeparking placeholder page]

I'm don't think the name change is a good idea. Have overseas big phone companys changed their brand name because they offer more then phone services?

Look forward to seeing what showmetv offers, hopefully a subscription package rather then pay per views.

http://www.telecom.co.nz/sparkshould, just started working. Was getting to many redirects first time tried it. Now goes to free parking, and is the future site of sparkshould.co.nz

It just changed again, just has orange page with telecom on it now and words, will be home of something unique.

CEO Simon Moutter explained on Morning Report this morning that the Spark name better represents the "in the moment" life we all lead these days. Say what??? Given the company's inability to provide a reliable email service, does that mean that Xtra will be rebranded as "Fizzer"?
;-)

Anyone want to place bets on when Sky will react to this? Either price drops or sudden launch of a similar online streaming service or some other improvements?

Well, as pointed out, a bit of a flat... http://www.telecom.co.nz/sparkshould?pid=int532 is what I get if I click the Know More button... It only says Coming Soon.

I suppose we will get sued to it but initially it looks kind of bad but we humans have short memories, I still recall its original name,' NZ Post Office' now there's a scary name.

Massive joint-promo efforts with Voda just became very attractive for Sky

You would cancel over the name, you see it on your bill sand maybe very tiny font on your mobile? surely its the service etc that counts.

I wonder how much was spent on the "focus group" to come up with this bright idea.
