bmatt42: I don't want to be one of these "selected customers". How do I get unselected?
Seriously, is the wireless network simply (or complicatedly) overloaded ?
Is it a router issue, or something to do with the IP addresses allocated or are there bottlenecks at the exchanges?
And are you saying that Vodafone still do not have the coverage area that Telecom has?
I asked Telecom New Zealand about this and received this reply:
...we are aware of some reported instances of customers experiencing lower than normal speeds and we have asked Alcatel-Lucent to investigate. To date Alcatel-Lucent have only been able to replicate a low speed once.
So, this is known and under investigation.
As per coverage, it appears that Telecom New Zealand still offers a wider 3G footpring than Vodafone. And if you want to see how widely the Vodafone vodem can vary, check my blog post and you will know.
Just for your information, Vodafone is investigating why their network performs so badly where I am now, when a few months ago it was a perfect coverage. They suspect it could be the vodem, or the network being saturated (here?) or some other settings.
In summary: there are problems in both networks, all the time, and they both work to fix their problems.
