l43a2: does Vodafones routing to the US east coast go via many different asian countries? no it doesn't nor does snap or any other ISP I've checked in NZ.
JamesL: One would assume other providers use multiple upstream providers, which provides the best of both worlds.. resiliency and generally shortest path.
Not sure how you can defend that crap routing with global gateway but whatever.

Routing is not static, I am sure this has been explained to you before

Talkiet: People are looking at this particular situation, but I am NOT going to say this is a fault because things like this CAN happen due to situations beyond our reasonable control and sometimes they resolve themselves in time, sometimes they can be longer term issues (cable cuts a long way away from NZ) and sometimes they are normal.
