for the last wee while a few of the routes one of my backup servers has been taking seem a little off

seems to go the long scenic route via ASIA instead of via the US like most other traffic

if other spark customers could traceroute 62.210.16.2 and see if their routes are the same, it never used to be this way its changed in the last week or so.

Thanks.

“It’s the Internet”

This path works and it’s a result of decisions made by providers along the route. Sometimes we’re able to influence these for our benefit and sometimes the routes stand due to capacity, commercial or other reasons (outside our network).

In any case, you’re only seeing a forward path (and RTT), the return path is not necessarily the same.

Upstream provider relationships are continually changing and at that level we have direct dialog with those providers. Where it's practical, some alteration to routing may occur. However what you are observing isn't a fault per-se.

What impact is this having on you?

Cheers - N

When you pay a company it becomes their responsibility to do the job with due care.

would be nice to find out. spark's routing is generally ok but the last month or so its been basically rubbish to some providers.

From what I've seen in the past year Spark seem to be working on increasing their connectivity options into Asia. This might just be a side effect of that.

I'm assuming thats a Leaseweb USA server? i noticed that odd routing last night too! very frustrating. (using my laptop as a wifi card atm so thats why the first 2 hops are like that)

This was happening to Snap when they were using Global Gateway as their upstream provider.

Thankfully they've moved away from them, terrible routing to Europe.
