The spam I found all appeared to come from local companies through Stuff. Same emails as previous month that had obviously wrong sender.

Here's one example from mine. The others are similar, at least as far as the body of the email goes, advertising different things though.

Yup same sort of emails I was getting, I blacklisted them but a variation of the email address normally comes back after a few weeks, Will post the up the next one I see.

Yes, it may have a valid-looking Spark email address, but is the originating IP address a valid Spark IP address?
If the spammer is just forging the from address in the header, then it and the IP address won't match and the message can be 100% rated as Spam.
Or am I teaching grandma to suck eggs? *

* What's a modern equivalent to this now completely outmoded saying: maybe "teaching Linus to code in C"? ;-)

Seriously though, the manage to ban a butt ton of legitimate mail and something like this gets through!! How does this not look 'spammy'?!

I often get a bulk load of spam on my XTRA account (it is listed on haveibeenpwned so I am guessing that's the source) -- all within several hours on the same day and it always gets past their filters

Things advertising I've won a ford ranger, new world gift cards, coundown gift cards, etc - you name it, apparently I've won it. All of them have a phony unsub link. I always just trash them but it does get thru every time they go for it!

On the other end of the scale I can send a client an invoice who has SMX as a service provider of their e-mail (but not XTRA) and it gets flagged as spam haha.

That statement was in regards to the formatting etc used within the body of some of these examples (outside of what's been shown above.)

in terms of how the emails could be getting through, I'm not about to define this or why/how certain bits work - I'm sure you can understand why..

SMX do have a process to go through to assist in this, the provider can assist there.

SMX do have a process to go through to assist in this, the provider can assist there.

Oh I know they have a process I just found it a tad amusing

I did read that attaching a PDF to an email with such a subject was probably bad form and have been putting plenty of content in the body of an e-mail that comes with it along with other attachments like compliance certificates but doesn't seem to make a difference (also gone thru the Google tool for making e-mails as receivable as possible!)

It doesn't get rejected every time, some must sound "scammier" than others!

just wondering,

could some of the issue be self inflicted.
ie : giving out your email adress to anyone or any website that asked for it, putting email adress in plain view on your website , giving email adress to those who will use it for
marketing & pass it on to "affiliated" companies .

The spam coming into my xtra email a/c has never been unmanageable (many days none)
1 or 2 spams a day : honestly thats no big deal and may be unrealistic to expect any less (?)

i havent seen any spam in my outlook (xtra email address) at all this year, i have zero in my spam and junk mail folders.
