Just started this week - new spam getting through to my xtra webmail.

This is the culprit: <info@e.spark.co.nz> even after telling my xtra mail box that it is spam they are still getting through.

The click bait is: <http://nex.soundestlink.com/link/........> with ever changing alphanumerical sequences.

Perhaps one of our excellent Spark members can help ?

Does hitting the spam button in webmail help train the filter or is it just another delete?

It does trigger it yes. as does dropping the mail into the spam bin.

i can confirm this has been reported a few times, so will already be in the right peoples hands. seeing what they are doing though i'll give it an extra prod in the morning

I’ve been getting a lot of spam through into my Xtra inbox lately. Sunday morning we may have had 150 in an hour? It’s been happening for 6 months or so. All look similar.

I’ve been migrating away from Xtra to my own domain via gmail as a result.

Sunday morning was a particularly bad day for spam, based on data from blacklists it wasn't isolated to spark..

I can confirm for you, that a ton of it was filtered; Can't really say much more than that though.

Spam is a massive pain, these days a spammer tends to find a way to send one to an victim account, soon as they see it works end to end... it's only a short timeframe till it's reported or detected...

I'll ask the right folk if they can comment further :)

Does this spam even work , Does the spammer get paid money for the volume they send or how many people follow the link. I would have thought in this day in age people would not be so taken in with spam. I have seen a lot in the last few days using the names of Briscoes and countdown etc.

To be blunt (and please no offence to those who administer the Xtra mailboxes) at my old work we have no end of hassle with members of the public with @Xtra email accounts.

We would get maybe 1 or 2 a week, if we had any email issues, it was a running joke that it would be inevitably it would involve an Xtra email address.

We would of course perform our due diligence confirm 100% nothing was broken on our end, and ask they use an alternative email.

Seriously though, the manage to ban a butt ton of legitimate mail and something like this gets through!! How does this not look 'spammy'?!

They're probably using Spamassassin and bayesian filters, which would've been fine back in the 90's

the email looks somewhat legit to the be honest, also comes from what looks like a valid spark email.
