Where are the details on VOLTE Roaming?

Basically with 3G being turned off a lack of VOLTE roaming = no voice when roaming which is ridiculous.

That is the way it was for a while in the US for NZ customers

I suspect they do not have a volte roaming agreement in place

T-Mobile still has a GSM network; I suspect any carrier not yet to put in place a VoLTE agreement will do so by then.

Also in NZ there are a lot of parallel imported Android phones which are 4G but dont have the NZ profile for VoLTE

From what I've read VoLTE roaming pretty well takes us back to the days of CDMA. It's pretty much hit and miss.

VoLTE has to be supported by the device manufacturer for that device for thecountry/Telco of use and the Telco has to also support that device.

@openmedia After some Google research and checking out the SparkNZ site about VoLTE roaming I have come to the conclusion that SparkNZ / Skinny do not have VoLTE roaming in place in India

Edit: SparkNZ Also provide a list of Handsets that will work with VoLTE roaming

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/mobile/device-help/device_compatibility_list/

Nokia 7.2 no VoLTE roaming

Nokia G60 is not even listed as expected as this handset is imported

An iPhone isn't really a practical option for many people. Buying a phone just for roaming doesn't make sense.

Taking a step backwards like we have with VoLTE and the complications wirh roaming doesn't make sense either.

Buying a phonejust for roaming doesn't make sense.

It makes sense to Apple. I can only wish Google would do something similar.

It is easier as they make the hardware and write the software, there is nothing carrier specific about it they have collected all the VoLTE profile variants and loaded them into their software.

The software on each model of Android phone is brand specific (Nokia/Samsung/etc) and they have specific software for specific markets.

I've now heard back from Skinny support that appears to confirm that VoLTE should work - Sadly still doesn't

For roaming, please kindly check if the network that you're connected to is under Bharti Airtel as they are the only partnered network we have in India. To manually change this, you can following steps below:

- Choose Settings.
- Choose Network & Internet.
- Choose a SIM where the Skinny SIM is
- Choose Advanced.
- Scroll down and disable Automatically select network.
- The Nokia is now searching for available networks.
- Choose the "Bharti Airtel" network to connect to the selected network.

To make sure VoLTE calls are working, you'll need to make sure that you're connected to at least 4G network as VoLTE can only run over 4g signal.

I spoke with skinny when I bought the handset and they stated then there should be no issues.

Regarding VolTE they've now responded that they can't resolve overseas carrier problems for any roaming issues.

@openmediaShould be no issues " Well now you have an issue

In this case SparkNZ make it clear the Nokia 7.2 handset is not supported using VoLTE roaming and Skinny uses the SparkNZ network

The next issue is if you had a supported handset then SparkNZ / Skinny would 110% resolve the roaming VoLTE issue working with the roaming carrier. The Skinny support staff member has misinformed you - As you do not have a supported handset no support

Roaming agreements are in place between the home network and the roaming carrier - They have agreements in place for working on faults between the roaming partners

So next step get a supported handset that supports VoLTE roaming then you can raise a fault with Skinny about the issue

Currently in Hawaii, Skinny roaming refused to work until I did this and manually selected Verison and 12 hours later. Last year in the mainland it just worked without doing anything.

@noroad: These are approved handsets - Manual network selection is nothing new the reason for this feature is if your handset does not attach to a roaming mobile network you can force it to action a RAU

Openmedia does not have an issue with the handset attaching to a network but VoLTE roaming not working
