matt45: 3. if the signal was that far out wouldn’t that stop handsets running at 850 from receiving the signal at all, therefore completely dismissing any reason for transmitting outside yours assigned range in the first place? (someone please correct me if im wrong)

I don't know if you are right or not (I assume you are right but I have no idea!), but would Telecom have moved foward from a launch date in June to 13 May this late on if they were having such bad problems with their towers etc? If they launched and they went over their emissions limit, lets say, they would get nailed...

Let's just say, if Telecom proves there's nothing wrong, and Vodafone is to blame... Then this move by Vodafone will look so bad...

On the other hand, it could be that some Telecom filters do need adjustment. In this case wouldn't be better for Vodafone to just ask the MED to take action? Why go to courts?

In any case I think it looks bad for Vodafone more than to anyone else...

i agree, imo there is probably a 80% chance that vodafone will come out of this looking like idiots. the only logical reasons i can think of for telecom doing this and not taking action are
a. don't want to pay for good filters.
b. want to reduce vfones network performance.

but i highly doubt tcom would ever take the risk of doing either of these for the fear of getting shafted by the comcom.

From the original post:

I would hope that this = proper testing, though I am not sure as I am not a technician. I hope that the Ministry of ICT would have/hire competent experts...

mrtoken: No surprise here, vodafone network has been crap for a very long time, the only good place to be on there network is at the airport in auckland, the amount of times i have had dropped data and calls is not even funny, or there 3G network that drops you back ot GPRS then back to 3g then back down makes it very hard to use the iphone some days.

In my experience coverage in Auckland International Arrivals is dodgy at best. I can never pick up a solid data connection until past DFS Galleria, and that is on more than one phone.

Radio Spectrum Management, a division of the Ministry of Economic Development, do indeed hire 'competent experts'. They also have an enforcement team which, surprise surprise, does enforcement of RSM regulations and policies (amongst other MED-related tasks).

If there was a problem, a simple call to RSM or the National Enforcement Unit of the MED from Vodafone would've been enough to get the problem solved. If Telecom still neglected to solve the problem, the NEU could then pursue legal action -- and it wouldn't cost Vodafone a cent!

This is, in my opinion (and mine alone, certainly not that of my employer), simply a last-ditched attempt by Vodafone to fight competition. They cry wolf when they want something out of industry, but when it's their term to sit back and face the music they jump on to defensive mode.

Get over it Vodafone. Sort out your own issues and stop trying to interfere with bringing some decent competition to the public finally!

I never thought they werent competent lol. I just thought I would try to illustrate that there is a processs, and Vodafone have not chosen the route that would appear to solve things. I am glad someone has cleared it up for us!

what a joke, howmany can see through vodafones ploy, they stated on the news they dont want to stop Telecoms launch they just want a gurarantee that their network will not impacts theirs. Too right it will impact, in they way of customers jumping ship to Telecom, finally competition and they now go for dirty bag of tricks

I'd suggest that you probably be very careful what you say here and what side you back.

This issue is very complex and has been ongoing for quite some time. It is certainly not a case of a company taking a last ditch effort to stop a competitors network.

Also make what you want out of Telecom's press release and in particular their wording of the MED summary.
