wish Vodafone would at least try and compete to some level. Their non-Vodafone text deals are appalling.

I will be interested as to see what the "fair use policy" is. Possible a limit on texts per day or p/h maybe?

Here we go: http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/special-offers/non-stop-text

Here is some more info on the terms of the plan:

Non-Stop Text special offer

  • National person to person texting only

  • Fair Use Policy applies

  • Offer ends 31st Jan 2010

  • Non-Stop Text ends 31st Jan 201

  • Excludes Gen-I

  • Offer only available on XT

  • Telecom terms and conditions apply

Fair Use Policy
This Fair Use Policy is referenced against average customer profiles and estimated customer use of this service based on historic text usage of our text customers. If your use significantly exceeds these patterns and estimated use patterns over any month, then your use will be deemed excessive and/or unreasonable. In these circumstances, Telecom may ask you to moderate your usage. If you fail to do so, Telecom reserves the right, without further notice, to remove the service from your account.

Hmmm, the fair use policy doesn't really tell you how much you can use.

What is all of your opinions

8 GB for $69.95. There's a special deal regarding the "4 GB" plan so I expect that we'll see an overhaul later today.

hard to know obviously,  but maybe compare it to how the fair usage policy works for other unlimited type plans, compare when it kicks in vs what you would be allowed to use on an equivalent priced plan without unlimited usage.

e.g.    Big Time/Go Large.   For the fair uage to kick in on those you basically have to be downloading Terabytes of data I beleive,  more than 20 times the 10GB you would be able to download on an equivalent priced plan.
If that sort of ratio holds true for unlimited text,  then it could be somewhere in the region of 20 x 500 = 10,000 texts per month.

is that logical?

P.S. I wonder if they are shaping the texts :P

I guess this will shift kids off CDMA phones very rapidly. Although if the parents are going to pay for the new phones they'll need an incentive too, like a better family calling deal.
I'm not convinced Telecom will get much off Voda's market share by this sort of price competition though.

I believe what they have seemed as 'fair use' is they have taken the extreme top 5% of all texters on the CDMA/XT networks and set the bar there for fair use, which from what I've heard is in the vicinity of 20,000+/month. But of course, the T's & C's say otherwise, so best to go by them!

I see absolutely no point in picking up this service as it is only for a limited time. if this was going to be the norm i would jump on it.

pathetic really. nothing to be excited about.

So you would rather pay $6 more and get limited to 1500 texts? Rather than pay less and get unlimted. Wheres the logic in that?

$10 TXT was usually only guaranteed for a set time, say 1 year or so, whats the difference? Take advantage of the various offers that suit you while you can.

I am asking for people working for competitors to refrain from posting bullshit here.

I agree with freitasm. It's the best text deal and NZ carrier currently has. I don't think anyone can argue with that
