nzpossum: As i said in a previous post . Telecom should be acknowledging this on their website or their 08800 number, not on this forum. Is owning up to the fact their is a problem too much to ask, or us poor customers demanding too much.

I concur.
Instead of lying they should own up.
Telecom is just lucky that its on the DLow and not out in the open.

Hmmm, I was just thinking - if this was American, some nutter would have gone
berzerk and shown Telecom what he REALLY thought of them by now..

It IS too much to ask, because at this stage, I think Telecom know that they're legal in the poo. And also, I've never had ONE bloody apology from anyone I've spoken to, not ONE.

(I did however get told that after this is 'fixed' that I and everyone who has been effected will be recieving a rebate)... I asked for that in writing.

Did you end up getting it in writing or told that you would get it in wirting?
Recording phone conversations is a good substitute

Oh, they 'told' me I would get it in writnig. I won't hold my breath, but I've told Fair Go that they
promised it, so we'll see how they squirm out of that one.

patznz: @Shiroshadows, I couldnt be bothered reading the last 19 pages.Tongue out

To Illustrate the point im maxing 35ish kbps, running 10 threads to a server that has in the past given consistently around 1.2-1.8mbps, for the last 6 months. It has been crawling for the past 2 weeks.

Something is broken.
Telecom need to send an email to all people on the plan advising them of any problems they are having, or changes they have made.

They are a bunch of d*** heads, with this, go large, $10 unlimited texting and with xt.

Don't blame you lol

Yeah I'm running 8 threads and only getting around 20kB/s

Running standard Firefox download from Fallout3Nexus @ 150KB/s
Running DTA from the same @ about 1MB/s

I'm in Wellington just down the road from the exchange if you were wondering.

Actually if anything speeds are better than ever, I used to get 500 max even using DTA.

I have asked Telecom through my contacts for an official word on this. So far no reply, just the acknowledgement of the request.

I think now things will mellow a tiny bit in anticipation for the reply.

Hehehe, I think we need everyone to jump on this (re: fair go), for it to hold
any teeth. The more the merrier, and the worse it will be for Telecom. I guess
they have to actually hold their head in utter shame and admit they blundered
this whole thing up, and offer us something similar to what we had just over two weeks
ago.

Yes indeed mate, thanks so much for that, but I don't think anyone here is holding their
breath. It's becoming quite depressing to be honest - and my daughter is having fits
of rage over this - I wonder if Telecom employees would like to take her for the
time that it takes to fix this issue... I bet it's be fixed in less than 24 hours LOL!!!!!

I do on average 60-100gb a month on Big time and know yes it is entirely possible for someone to pull 1+ tb a month on this plan.

Edit: Please do NOT pm / email me asking how I do it as I am NOT going to tell you.

Edit again: Due to people not doing what I asked I removed the content of my post, Mods/admins can see it but no one else now.

I can understand where you guys are coming from. But that seems to be even more reason to take your business elsewhere. Help out the smaller guys, instead of the bigger company that's doing you wrong. I guess, I'm just a man of principal. I get poor service, I take my business elsewhere.

Is unlimited internet really worth all the frustration and strife though?.

I'm not even really sure why telecom offer these sorts of plans. Other isp's seem to offer more sustainable alternatives like free off peak or just large caps off peak. Which would seem to be a good way to give people the best of both worlds. Speedy on peak for the average user, and data mongers can go crazy off peak.

Then again a properly setup shaping system should be able to prioritize bandwidth seamlessly during those hours.

I guess that's what the problem is for telecom.

Cheers
Dave

"properly setup shaping system should be able to prioritize bandwidth seamlessly during those hours..."
Best thing said on this forum mate. Coming from a multi-million dollar company, you'd expect them to be able to get it right, wouldn't you?

Oh yes absolutely.

It's seems odd that this problem has continued on as long as it has. Surely they could have just rolled back whatever changes they had made untill they sorted out whatever the problem was with there curret changes.

But no doubt being a big company, any changes take time and usually go through many depatments and discussions and so forth. Main reason why I like to work within smaller business.

They should have really had there local caching setup to begin with. Then more content that people are trying to access would be pulled locally. Making it not so frustrating for people, and relieving stress on the international lines.

It just seems a bit half arsed on telecoms behalf. The number 8 wire techinque works well on the farm, but not so much for an isp.

Also no communication with customers in this day and age is dissapointing. As there are more options than ever to do so.

It's just a weird situation. haha.

Ofcourse you realise that the ones complaining about speed issues with Torrents aren't really going to get that fixed, the Slow down of torrents are exactly what the purpose behind the shaping of the traffic is for. As more than likely from Telecom's point of view they are happy that torrent speeds are low.

Torrent speeds (off peak) have NOT changed for me, I'm fine with them, they've stayed the same through all of this... it's day to day internet use and http which is 24-40KB/s which is getting up my nose.

Thats one thing I've always wondered about, because torrent speeds have always been faster than HTTP for me.
